Pre-season Friendlies
Re: Pre-season Friendlies
Have we properly started pre season training yet? Most of the lads seem to be at the gym with there mates or playing golf
Re: Pre-season Friendlies
Heavens, they might be getting fitter or bonding with other squad members...

Re: Pre-season Friendlies
Do they actually charge to watch a 'Friendly'?
I noticed the Hibernian v Hartlepool friendly being advertised on my Streaming Device today. Most friendlies will be screened over the summer. But I won't be watching any.

Re: Pre-season Friendlies
So if a Premier League club brought a side to Barrow for a friendly you wouldn't attend if they charged? Get real man.
A friendly is a chance for the bigger team to help out the smaller team financially, so HOBs will benefit on attendance and bar sales, and none of their players are paid!
It also gives our fans a chance to see our new signings.

Glasgow Morton? Shome mishtake, Greenock Morton, shurely. And the last time we played them in a friendly was in the mid/late-60s, I think.Sea Dog Sam wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 4:00 pmDo they actually charge to watch a 'Friendly'?Last friendly I attended was our home encounter with Glasgow Morton in the early 70s - can't remember if I paid or not
They're a waste of time for fans. Training/Fitness sessions for the players.

the game was played in Spain - so Hibs streamed it on their You Tube channel - Hartlepool lost and looked awfulSea Dog Sam wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 4:00 pmDo they actually charge to watch a 'Friendly'?Last friendly I attended was our home encounter with Glasgow Morton in the early 70s - can't remember if I paid or not

Isn't Greenock part of Glasgow?
How time flies. Could have sworn it was in the 70s but you're probably right.

Re: Pre-season Friendlies
If a Premier League club brought a side to Barrow - No I wouldn't attend - it'd be like watching Barrow play a Premier League youth team in a training exercise. Friendlies are simply for getting the players match fit. I'll be seeing our new signings when they run out at Edgely Park July 30th.bluessupporter wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 4:13 pm So if a Premier League club brought a side to Barrow for a friendly you wouldn't attend if they charged? Re: Pre-season Friendlies
No, Greenock is a town in its own right, west of Glasgow, which I happened to drive through only last Saturday. The friendlies - there were a couple - were around the time we signed Mulholland and Mallon from them.Sea Dog Sam wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 4:53 pmThanks for correcting me. Re: Pre-season Friendlies
I think I was still at school when I attended. Morton played in an all white kit. Mulholland and Mallon are both names I remember with fondness
both part of Barrow AFC's best ever side managed by the late, great, Colin Appleton.
Brian Arrowsmith (RIP) once told me a tale concerning Mallon in the Barrow AFC dressing room. I won't provide the details but apart from being an excellent defender (who took no prisoners) Jimmy Mallon was, apparently, a real hard f**ker!
