Re: Barrow v Tranmere Rovers match thread
No Adam Johnson tonight unfortunately he is under the weather. Stand in was a late call up probably explains a lot.Methuselah wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 10:19 pm Two soft goals given away tonight and why take Stevens off when he was one of the best players on the pitch. As an aside I was trying to find the prematch and after match commentary and it was all Carlisle United..Is there only one Div2 team in Cumbria?
Re: Barrow v Tranmere Rovers match thread
TBF Adam wasn't there tonight and his stand-in may not have known the after-match format that normally happens. Also much less time on a midweek than a Saturday match.mall wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 10:21 pmYes, you should know that by now.Methuselah wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 10:19 pm Two soft goals given away tonight and why take Stevens off when he was one of the best players on the pitch. As an aside I was trying to find the prematch and after match commentary and it was all Carlisle United..Is there only one Div2 team in Cumbria?

Re: Barrow v Tranmere Rovers match thread
Radio Cumbria was actually a joke post match. They actually should be embarrassed by the bias shown tonight. It is not professional at all
Re: Barrow v Tranmere Rovers match thread
The defence doesn’t inspire confidence. The number of diagonal balls from deep that fell in our box and caused confusion is worrying. Then, when we win the ball in defence, we don’t get forward quickly enough, at least not by passing and movement. Many of the long balls forward are just hopeful. We seem to have lost the confidence to zip the ball around and create space.

Re: Barrow v Tranmere Rovers match thread
I was very surprised by that myself, presume the sponsors must have just wanted a photo with him; I’m like a broken record but it baffles me why we’ve taken our player of the season so far imho out of the position he’s done so well in. Saying that there wasn’t one obvious stand out candidate for MOM, Broughy maybe as he was used in a more attacking sense tonight and got some cracking balls in.
And those cracking balls we just couldn’t get on the end of; Josh Gordon has reverted to type now his hot streak is over and barely even looks like getting a chance never mind scoring. Bennet has to start on Monday surely. Saying all that Waters has to score his chance after the red card and then it’s another decent point, disappointing night

I’m laid up in bed ill, James had to leave Crewe at 9:30pm so there was nobody to anchor the show
The show goes off air at 10pm so if wild isn’t up before then then it gets recorded

Re: Barrow v Tranmere Rovers match thread
Very frustrating. No penetration at all really, though Gordon should have slid in for one, and then Waters blazed over a really good opportunity inside the penalty area. Two big misses I'd say, but not the only culprits. Too many looped long balls. Not enough zip. Waters has gone off the boil (almost a pun...)No stand out performances against fairly poor opposition. I think Lillis was our mom.

Re Wild "swearing " I wasn't going yo mention it but as it's now on twitter here goes, as I was stood watching the player's walking off ,someone who I know said did you hear what Wild said ,I replied no but he was adamant Wild told some fans to F**k off etc. Even if he was provoked this is unacceptable and there has to be a formal apology from either himself or the club ( if true) and then hopefully move on BUT we've banned fans for less !

Re: Barrow v Tranmere Rovers match thread
Poor tonight esp Warren (can see why were looking at bringing a right back in)
I left frustrated with that performance but i think we were higher in league than anyone thought we'd be by the end of 2022. Yes 4th was a dream but how many people would have taken 9th at start of season ? I think Gotts being out and Kay banned unsettles the team balance and we don't have the squad to compensate it so some new faces are needed. Aren't Gordon, Waters and Whitfield are top scorers ? But can't play together as some on here mention. Bennett should get more game time esp if fit but he doesn't for what ever reason. If we get into a bottom 5 scrap I'll panic and prob want a change, but we ain't and lets see over next few weeks what players come in and results before we start calling for the managers head....which I've seen tonight on FB

Not sure where the Tranmere were poor and there for the taking comments are coming from, they had a number of good opportunities like we did ourselves.
Popular side since '03.

A listless first half. 3 key chances missed - Brough first half, Whitfield and Waters second. But I’m not sure we deserved a draw . Something not quite right. The klaxons will be sounding if we don’t beat Rochdale . Pete Wild says we’re developing and getting better. Not on that performance. Thought Tom White was our MoM. Gordon has had some stick but the service to him was total rubbish. I love his attitude though. If they all showed his desire we’d be progressing.

Re: Barrow v Tranmere Rovers match thread
A frustrating encounter tonight- at times the points seemed there for the taking but Tranmere posed a continual threat, bringing a few saves from Lillis in the second half. A poorly defended corner 5 minutes in meant once again we were chasing the game from the off but, following a series of good chances, another excellent Jordan Stevens strike brought a 38th minute equalizer. The second half was closely fought but it was Rovers who retook the lead in the 82nd minute through Kane Hemmings- five minutes after their midfield Paul Lewis had been sent off for barging down Josh Lillis at the edge of his area. We then spurned two great chances in the final minutes, the 2-1 defeat taking us down to 9th place in the league.
Morris won the first corner of the game for Rovers 5 minutes in. Bristow’s right-hand delivery enabled Turnbull to slot the ball past Lillis from the centre of the area.
We plugged away in search of an equaliser. In the 15th minute, Whitfield was brought down; his free kick resulted in a Stevens shot which was blocked in the area. Two minutes later, Doohan saved a Whitfield 25-yard effort. Another three minutes later, Stevens won a corner and Brough’s right-hand delivery resulted in a Canavan shot being blocked on the line. In the 29th minute a Warren ball into the area was headed out for a Barrow corner. From this, Neal headed wide of the left post. In the 36th minute, Foley just couldn’t connect in front of goal with an excellent long ball.
Finally, our efforts paid off in the 38th minute when Stevens received the ball just outside the area and fired through the crowded penalty area into the left corner for 1-1.
After another couple of good chances from Brough and Stevens just before half time we appeared to be in a good position for taking the lead in the second half.
However, less than five minutes into the second half Lillis came to our rescue with a fine save, getting down well to thwart Morris from the edge of area and push the goal-bound ball just past the left post.
Brough fed Whitfield for a dangerous ball across goal ten minutes in but it was blocked. Three minutes later Lewis replaced Mumbongo for what would turn out to be 20 minutes on the field.
However, it was Lewis who almost scored with a close-range header in the 62nd minute, Lillis doing very well to block the effort.
Waters then replaced Stevens for Barrow. In the 68th minute, following excellent work by Foley, Brough crossed to Whitfield whose close-range shot was saved.
A minute later Lillis was called into action again with a good save from Hawkes.
In the 75th minute, Gotts replaced Foley. A minute later, Rovers’ Lewis was through on goal but was clearly offside. The flag was not raised and Lewis ended up barging Lillis at the edge of the area as he came out to block. Red-carded, Tranmere were down to 10 and Lilllis required 4 minutes treatment which was added on to extra time.
However, in the 82nd minute, only two minutes after the game resumed, Rovers were back in front. A cross from the right by Dacres-Cogley was headed past Lillis by Hemmings.
In a last roll of the dice in the 85th minute, Nwabuokei and Bennett came on for Neal and Whitfield. Simu replaced Hawkes for Rovers.
We came agonisingly close to equalising in the 90th minute. Shots from Gotts and Bennett were blocked in the area and then Waters skied in front of goal.
In added time Brough had a shot saved while Gordon was yellow carded.
The attendance was 3,383 including 310 visiting fans.

Re: Barrow v Tranmere Rovers match thread
Won’t be surprised if we beat Rochdale if that counts
We won’t be anywhere near the play offs but we will get what we all wanted pre season…..to be nowhere near the bottom 2 come April. The bigger/better sides have figured us out, we will still have much more chance of beating the crap than we did last season
