Everton - Lancs Cup game

Good win to keep the Squad match ready & marvellous that 800 kids had a top day out & got to see a big club play locally, Surely a few hundred will now be pestering their parents to take them to a league game…Hope the club have the foresight to offer these folks a family ticket to whet their appetite.

For those moaning they couldn’t get in, The majority of you should blame YOURSELF As it was advertised as a restricted gate with only a few hundred capacity available, Probably still carry a Non League mentality where you can rock up 5 mins before KO….Times are a changing & you should

Non league mentality could also be mentioning a restricted capacity less than 24 hours before knowing you've invited loads of kids.

I agree the club could & should communicate better as too many people these days lack any common sense & need leading by the nose, So it should have been more detailed & announced earlier & explained that only X amount of adults permitted or even applied on line to indicate potential numbers & open up another section if warranted, As I’m hearing they did due to the larger crowd, So they adapted some didnt they?

A sign of good times when people are moaning they can't get into what is essentially a friendly! Once over you couldn't get people in for a league game.
All those kids were loving it and made noise all game long.
A good run out for the lads but it was men against boys in the end. The Everton keeper had a great game with some fantastic saves. Could've been a bigger scoreline without him.
I think the club need cutting some slack here. It would normally have been behind closed doors but they decided to invite schools and open up a small section of the ground to limited numbers. They could've opened all sections and had only a couple of hundred turn up, costing them for staff etc. Would people have attended if they had to pay? Cup games aren't included in the season ticket after all. Damned if you do....

To be fair Mike; how many older folk (I’m guessing with it being work time that would be the majority who went along and missed out) would think to check the website today to see the craic; previously it’s always just mentioned about free entry, nothing about only certain stands being open etc
Still find it hard to believe hundreds got locked out for this game as an earlier poster said though

I'm just jealous I never got to go to the football on a Tuesday afternoon when I was at school!

Remember back in the pre-floodlight sixties an FA Cup replay against Buxton. Our teacher that afternoon said that if it had been a League club we were facing the head may have allowed us the afternoon off. As it was we had to rely on people getting info by telephone and passing messages on scraps of paper through the classroom window.On todays game it wouldn't surprise me if some of the complainants were posting earlier that we shouldn't be entering this tinpot cpmpetition.

I take it that was the teacher using the school landline phone, as there weren't any mobiles in the 60's.

Yes 100% the club should spell it out over all media platforms & several times to maximise exposure etc, We deffo need more back office staff to do the necessary

Nobody was locked out, there was about 50 stood outside in the car park as it was deemed the West Terrace was full

Within a few minutes the stewards opened the away end and they all went in there.

Communication wise yes mistakes were made by the lateness of the post yesterday saying what was happening.

Personally if it was up to me it would have been a behind closed doors game and then invite the school kids to watch if you wanted to go down that line.

There certainly wasn’t “hundreds” of locked out supporters.

The children certainly enjoyed the day - don’t think I’ve ever heard the main stand sounding so loud. Hopefully some can go home and tempt their parents to bring them this weekend.

In terms of the game itself, good run out for the players involved. Bennett took his goals well - the Everton keeper was a colossus with some of the saves he made (like father like son - not that as a Blackburn fan I like to admit to calling a keeper from that dirty side of east Lancashire a colossus)
Only Josh Kay could almost cause a riot in a game against a team of kids for squaring up to Tim Cahills lad

And Ged Garner finished well to grab a goal for himself hopefully a boost to confidence

A young Everton Under-18s side bowed out of the Lancashire Senior Cup at the quarter-final stage with a 3-0 defeat to a vastly more experienced Barrow team on Tuesday afternoon.

Collectively, the hosts starting eleven had amassed more than 2,000 professional appearances, but Leighton Baines’ teenagers gave a spirited account of themselves despite falling short.

Indeed, it was 24 minutes before the League Two side broke the deadlock – Richie Bennett curling a low shot past Seb Jensen.

It would be the only goal of the first period and Jensen deserves a lot of credit for that. The young Blues keeper made a string of excellent saves – with one flying tip over the bar even prompting applause from the Barrow fans.

There was no shortage of backing for the Cumbrians after they invited more than 600 local schoolchildren into the match.

Barrow had by far the best of the first-half possession, but they were indebted to their own keeper Josh Lillis when he parried an angled drive from Jenson Metcalfe around the post after a clever Everton short-corner routine.

Seb Jensen was at it again after the break making a couple of fine stops before Bennett headed his and Barrow’s second goal just after the hour mark.

To their huge credit, Everton didn’t allow the contest to completely run away from them and they played some decent football in the second period. Barrow had far more physicality and know-how but the young Toffees certainly weren’t found wanting and stood up gamely to the task.

Barrow substitute Ged Garner headed the third goal in the 73rd minute and shortly after Everton came close to a consolation when Jacob Beaumont-Clark curled a lovely free-kick over the home wall and was unfortunate to see the ball strike the crossbar

The kids loved it, good fun. With a bit more organisational tweaking, it's a great way to make a Lancs Cup game interesting. Bring on Liverpool.

Everton bigger kids battled away without really threatening. They will have learnt a lot, their keeper was excellent.
