Barrow v Newport County match thread
Re: Barrow v Newport County match thread
What saves did Farman make that any keeper above north west counties would of made. Not saying abuse him but the fellas been average at best all season. What’s more worrying in neal/white/waters in the middle who create zilch

In the interval Bennett stood chatting for about 13 minutes and then kicked a ball to gotts about twice shows his disregard for the club and supporters!

Re: Barrow v Newport County match thread
You're right what I don't understand is Newport started to get on top but instead of sorting the midfield out we still persisted with a line of 4 up front absolutely braindead tactics
Re: Barrow v Newport County match thread
Having watched that this afternoon and then listened to all that's been said on Radio Cumbria till 6 o'clock it sets alarm bells ringing for me.
On the one side, I totally agree that the sending-off was a shocker of a decision and yellow was the only outcome possible for that challenge. And yes, it might well have been the thing that cost us in the end but I wouldn't like to use it a smokescreen or an excuse for the result or the second-half performance.
I find it hard to believe that Pete Wild could say we played "really, really well today" and to pin it all onto that red-card fiasco. From where I was standing, after an even first-half, we were second best by some distance in the second half and Newport could and should have been at least two up before the sending-off. Zanzala showed that he is not up to this level when through on goal and delaying too long in pulling the trigger, allowing Brough to make a great tackle (but one he shouldn't have had the time to make). The momentum was all Newport's and you could sense the goal was coming throughout that second half, even before the sending-off.
I've lost track of the number of times we've emerged in the second half this season and our levels have visibly dropped from the first 45 minutes It's happened over and over again but today was the most alarming of the lot. What's that all about? Do we have a fitness issue?
Finally, it's the first time I've seen Garner and no way would I judge him on one performance (a few nice flourishes actually, here and there, notably in the first half) but I am surprised at how deep-lying he played. I thought he was going to be up top getting us goals and assists. Clearly I've misunderstood.

Suggestion being made is that Feely said something to the ref that turned a yellow into a red!

Re: Barrow v Newport County match thread
In Neal, White and Foley we have three players who are essentially the same. Neal in particular, I think has been really good but to play two together is very very defensive and leaves us lacking in a midfield that can attack sides. Teams know now that our outlet is through Whitfield and Brough. When they stop that, we don't have another plan.
I'd love to see us try 4-4-2 with Neal and Gotts in the middle. Whitfield/Kay and Newby/Stevens playing as wingers and Garner and Gordon/Waters/Young up top. Just my opinion of course. Feels like with this system, we're playing people outside their best positions, i.e. waters or garner behind the front line
Where was Josh Kay today?
We hate Carlisle United, we hate Workington too (and Morecambe), we hate Accrington Stanley but Barrow we love you
Re: Barrow v Newport County match thread
Where has the crisp incisive interchangeable passing and movement of the first dozen games. The talk of having identity is clearly in the lost and found at present. We were certainly punching above our weight first third of the season but have been drowning in a pool of misery since. That late goal was coming we offered so little second half too many individuals are hiding at present and that certainly needs sorting going forward. But midfield obscurity keeps us living the dream not sure the board ultimately will be happy with that but hey ho.

Two separate incidents - if the thing said was a yellow and the foul was a yellow, wouldn't he have been shown 2 yellows and sent off? .. Unless what he said was deemed a straight red, but then he would have been shown a yellow for the foul AND a red for what he said.bluessupporter wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 6:29 pm Suggestion being made is that Feely said something to the ref that turned a yellow into a red!
I don't know but for me, the Newport players obviously got in his ear to get him sent.

Re: Barrow v Newport County match thread
What is worrying more than the referee is Wild suggesting Barrow played 'really well' and he was 'pleased' .. We were at home in a game vs a team well below us and I know no game is easy but we barely looked a threat and didn't have any prolonged pressure on their goal. We could have nicked it, but so could they and they did... The sending off made no difference to the fact that we need to defend set pieces better. We haven't defended set pieces well with 11 men

Yes I think Adam let him off lightly in his interview - Pete Wild was suggesting our defeat was all down to the sending off. Newport had the better of the second half chances and it was only thanks to Farman we were still level.

Re: Barrow v Newport County match thread
everyone apart from Pete could see Newport were getting on top but once again we were slow to react with our substitutions and whoever is in charge of our set pieces should be sacked there's no inventiveness and our defending at corners is criminal!FanzoneFan wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 7:19 pmMark Johnson wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 7:07 pm What is worrying more than the referee is Wild suggesting Barrow played 'really well' and he was 'pleased' .. Re: Barrow v Newport County match thread
PJ’s post sums it up nicely for me, one part in particular because I thought exactly the same listening to PW’s interview….if that was playing really really well then I’m baffled. It was bang average - at best. Two sides who look like they’re struggling and both contributing to putting on a boring display.
Bennet has done nothing all season (admittedly he was injured for a chunk of it) to make me think we couldn’t get better for half his wage.
I liked the look of Feeley and Garner showed some promise, something to build on.
Shocking decision for the red, did the ref even speak to the liner who had a better view of the incident than the ref did? Mind you, the liners are as bad.
Never heard any abuse aimed at Farman but if true then the people involved should be ashamed of themselves.
I hope this and other recent results finally makes those who thought the POs were a realistic aim were well wide of the mark.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
