Re: Gateshead tonight - GAME OFF
There are ice and snow warnings out for the north-east tonight, temperature to drop below 0°C in the early hours of Wednesday morning. No gusting wind and it is dry. No difference from any other winter day in January for the north-east (after snow), or at least what my mate from Sunderland says. He's doesn't watch football and thinks footballers are over paid divas that dive (or that was the gist of what he said). When I told him Gateshead where not coming he had a good laugh, he is making that run himself as I type this he did not expect any problems given the conditions. If they have not come on the decision of their coach company, it has made them look a bit silly.
We should have been on the phone to Stockport the moment we knew Gateshead had given up, probably too late in the day for that. How many more vital home league fixtures are we going to loose at the expense of cup games that are not happening. Not helping the finances.
FYI Gateshead: Hire a boat for Saturday, torrential rain is forecast right across the north.

So a waterlogged pitch then!K_BFC wrote:FYI Gateshead: Hire a boat for Saturday, torrential rain is forecast right across the north.
Gateshead tonight - GAME OFF
A69 remained open last night until at least 1am when I went to bed, with normal speeds expected and traffic moving as normal. Pathetic.

Re: Gateshead tonight - GAME OFF
Game hopefully should go ahead on Saturday, according to the official site.

Assuming Gateshead can get to Barrow, of course. There is a nasty rumour of a rogue snowflake hovering over the A66.

Re: Gateshead tonight - GAME OFF
I wouldnt put it past them John.
Games never used to be off for such reasons did they? Im sure Barrow fans have travelled near and far in difficult conditions.
Whitley Bay in 1990 for example?
Are buses running in the NE, cars on the roads etc? Or is everyone stuck indoors unable to get anywhere? Has the whole region completely shut down? Has it bullrocks.

Re: Gateshead Game
Just been told there is a possibility of the game being on, on Sunday if the conditions are too bad for it to go ahead on Saturday.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Gateshead Game
We are forecast snow and sleet for tonight (Fri) and ice warnings are out for the daylight hours tomorrow morning. It is not supposed to freeze over night but we are getting heavy snow at the moment which is predicted for several hours. Weather on Saturday afternoon looks fine along with the temperatures which will continue to rise all day, but there maybe a ton of snow to move off the pitch given what has come out of the sky in the last hour.
I wish they would sort out the official website, none of the stories are in the correct order. The current top story is about preparation for the game that didn't happen on Tuesday. I thought that story was about tomorrow. They have posted news items since but they are not listed in order, very confusing.
