Brackley Town Vs Barrow AFC Predictions & Match thread
Re: Brackley Town Vs Barrow AFC Predictions & Match thread
I guess Reg is spending the money he is saving on batteries for his sky remote and hand cream for the segs on his fingers from pressing all those buttons. Enjoy Reg! Lets move on and get back to supporting our team "Spirit".

Because there's about 50% of what was our core support two/three seasons ago doing the same. Once you are down to that it than elements are about more than form on the park. People who have been to Barrow far more than most over the years- they have a right to make their voices heard just as others have the right to disagree.
I don't see any 'campaign' at all-- I'm still going to games but I totally understand why people aren't.

I agree people have a choice but once made do we really need to be reminded repeatedly that they aren't going to games.
We need to encourage new support as they are the future of the club. The club really do need to address the problem of poor publicity and promote an interest within the town and all the in-fighting isn't going to achieve that.
It's our club and we have to get behind the team and give them that support. We can be the 12th man at Holker St tomorrow night.
They will be walking tall after seeing the home changing room and what the fans have done at their own expense and in their own spare time to make it that bit special----if we can prize them off the padded seats to venture forth.

Average crowds just 2 years ago were around the 1,200 mark.barrowaberdeen wrote:Because there's about 50% of what was our core support two/three seasons ago doing the same. Last season it fell to around the 900 mark.
Now we're down to the 600 mark.
It's clear that a LOT of fans are fed up with the club on and off the field and are staying away. To lose 50% of the support in just 2 years is worrying to say the least.

I have barely posted in the last few weeks Ian and I'm certainly not on any kind of recruitment drive to get others to do the same.spirit of 1990 wrote:Paul, Saltcellar, what I don't understand is this. You both agree with the fact your not missing it, you also both agree with the fact you are making better use of the money you are saving, you also presumably both agree that you will find it harder to attend as time goes on.
Think I've got all that right. But why do you both still feel the need to tell post telling people how you feel? we know, you've said it time & again but it's like you are making some sort of crazy recruitment drive to persuade others to stay away.
I've nothing against your personal choice of not attending - that's fine but just leave it at that, why spread your feelings overe & over amonst those who still want to help our club through the hards times when you've both made it quite clear your happy with where you are now.
I responded to Jonty's post, then I responded to Mark's question after my post.
I've been a regular at Holker Street for 25 years. Even though I was getting nothing from games for the last 12 months or more, you can't just switch your interest off because you stop going. I still listen to the games on the radio, I still watched the cup draw yesterday.
I guess it's a bit like if your kid turns into a serial killer. You might wash your hands of them but you would still have some kind of interest in what is going on in their lives.
Are you suggesting that people who aren't currently attending games stop posting, or even visiting the site?

I couldn't help but notice on Saturday that there was a prominent advert for the match next to a roundabout on the A43 just outside Brackley, then again at the end of the road leading to the ground (which is just south of the town centre); this latter sign also advertised the clubhouse and that all were welcome. There may well have been other signs around as well. No-one in the town, or just passing by, could have been unaware of the game being on or how to get to the ground.Holkerbird wrote:The club really do need to address the problem of poor publicity and promote an interest within the town and all the in-fighting isn't going to achieve that.
Against that, I doubt that many clubs at our level get the amount of free publicity that Barrow do through the Evening Mail and Radio Cumbria; local evening newspapers are few and far between these days, and regional radio stations tend to concentrate their coverage on the Premier League or Championshup clubs which Cumbria of course lacks.
As for the in-fighting, the internet age has allowed people to address their grievances to a much larger audience. In days gone by, such concerns would be discussed over a couple of pints in a local pub, or at the very most an aggrieved letter to the Mail's Sports Editor.

Regarding Bayliss not acknowledging the support, I don't see it as an issue. On top of everything else he's got on his plate he's probably also mindful of the fact that the majority of the people he would be acknowledging think he's run his course in the job. Why would he acknowledge us in that situation?
I don't think we need to try and point score against Bayliss by bringing things like this up. I think it's time for him to go, but I believe he's trying his absolute best and is hurting as much as anyone about it all.

I agree about the points scoring Kieran but as there are usually an average of 80 or so supporters at an away game unless you do an individual canvas how do you know what the majority think? It's the same on this forum. Over 2,000 registered but how many actually post or offer an opinion on anything and it is getting less lately? We don't know what their views are on anything but can't suppose we are speaking on their behalf.
On Saturday after watching him walk off the pitch on his own with his head down I told him to get his head up and be strong and I stand by that.

Extrapolation from a decently sized sample. http://barrowafc.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20659Holkerbird wrote:I agree about the points scoring Kieran but as there are usually an average of 80 or so supporters at an away game unless you do an individual canvas how do you know what the majority think? 135 from over 2,000 that could have voted. Most people I asked just laughed and said they couldn't be bothered. I know I couldn't.

I hope you don't mean me Steve. I don't agree with you but I don't resort to those comments. I love the world I live in as it is a happy place for me.
