The reason for the sterile area is because home fans started to shout abuse and spit on away players referees/linesmen etc .There was talk of putting Perspex over the cage area but nothing has been done as yet, another job for our brilliant volunteers perhaps. hope this explanation helped :scarf:

Pretty much that Benny. My personal hope is that we can work on this as a club. I'll speak to Ian and Mike to see what the lay of the land is.

I was told a while back by the maintenance group that they had plans to put up perspex sheeting but were then stopped. if its just a case of obtaining some suitable perspex to fit please let me know the sizes required and i'm sure i can source some

Maybe Mike should come on here an explain himself if this is the case.

Mike is very strict when it comes to the ground especially when it concerns the fans.

A good example is him not allowing alcohol to be consumed in plastic glasses during friendlies on the terraces in the summer yet when we go to other grounds it isn't a problem.

This isn't a dig I just think we as a club should be more transparent about such things.

When I walk around to the bar at FT I often stand by the steps while I'm there I vent my frustrations. This goes on at every club and can happen anywhere in the ground. I highly doubt that any of the 13 year olds and the men who stand there have ever spat at an opposing player.

The plaques stood up well to the mini Wukkie invasion :D I asked Mike about them before the game & he said there were stewards watching to make sure no damage was caused to them.

I'll PM you about that bud.

Not too sure about that Kieron, I saw a lad of the same age group spit on an opposing keeper in the HSE once as he took his run up to a goal kick (and yes I did give the lad a bollocking) so it does happen.

Back to the perspex. We spoke to various people at the club last year over this & it was going to be gone into with a bit more detail - there were problems with it if I remember correctly. We've even looked at putting some form of extending cover there.

From our POV although it's another job with all the associated costs that go with it, it wouldn't be a massive problem.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Sadly it is true last season it happened quite a lot, players that had been sent off especially. Iremember one incident when the opposing players would not go near the tunnel at full time because our fans were baying for blood and no I was not one of them I was mererly observing :(

Hence why i suggest fitting a perspex guard and only reducing the No go area to say 6 feet and not removing it completely
