Re: Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
Just received my post and in it was an Extraordinary General meeting Letter in it if I'm reading it right it says Friday 28th will just discuss the approach from Mr Paul Casson to purchase the assets of Barrow AFC and to discuss the approach of Mr Paul Casson to request the transfer of the football membership of Barrow AFC
There will be no vote on any proposals at this meeting and all members will be sent details of the final proposal along with details of how to vote via post within a week of this meeting.

Points taken but surely in general those that have renewed their membership are the ones who will be the most keen to vote.Eric Cartman wrote:As John L said above - there are many who do things like forget to update address, die or generally don't pay attention. The forum is also a small part of the BAFC community and there will no doubt be people who will still have their reservations about having the club at the mercy of one man. I'm all for this takeover and absolutely desperate for it to go ahead. I just hope that we manage to get the 75% vote requiredbarrowfan wrote: I know one or two have said this but why?
Overall there is a very positive attitude on this forum and people I've spoken to this morning say it's a no-brainer!
I do think however that on this occasion all the information about voting etc should go out to those on the membership list BY POST and not rely on people to deliver them by hand no matter how much postage this might save.
Edit - just seen the previous post and it looks like this might be happening.

"Pass a Special Resolution
A Special Resolution is a resolution passed by 75% of the members present in person or by proxy and entitled to vote at a general meeting.
Not less than 21 days notice specifying the intention to propose the resolution as a special resolution must be given to the members."
This is only an extract from an online reference and I'm no expert in law etc BUT it doesn't seem to say anything about postal votes!!
It seems therefore that member will either have to attend or ensure they have a proxy vote in place. The matter of a proxy vote given the likely number of members who are exiles MUST be sorted at the AGM please.

That seems to suggest it is 75% of those voting rather than 75% of all membership.DaveP wrote:"Pass a Special Resolution

One issue that there could be (although I'm not certain) is those who set up an annual standing order or whatever and forget about it. Technically these people will have renewed membership but may or may not be aware of this?barrowfan wrote:Points taken but surely in general those that have renewed their membership are the ones who will be the most keen to vote.Eric Cartman wrote: As John L said above - there are many who do things like forget to update address, die or generally don't pay attention. Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.
If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

Re: Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
Is it possible at this point to join?
Living away from home it might be pointless for me to do so might just add to the problem?
I'm no legal expert but it seems it's all about fairness and giving all members the chance to have a say - i little bit like when you used to get voting papers every year from your building society. Reading between the lines the club doesn't seem to have been very good at keeping records upto date -

Re: Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
I haven’t heard of any club member going for the nay vote and I certainly won’t be. Any member who would not go out of his/her way to cast a yea vote on this issue would be doing the club a highly damaging disservice and having had the good will and proactive initiative to take out a membership in the first place why would they then want to deprive the club of substantial funding?
As for apathy/forgetfulness I honestly can’t see it being an issue – it’s just too important.

Re: Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
I thought on the whole he came across very well (as you would expect a successful businessman to) I liked the personal touches such as wanting to name some part of the ground after his Father as his family legacy in Barrow. Surely you wouldn't use a close family member's memory as a bargaining tool to convince people to sell something (or is that just me being naive)
He's done his job last night, it'll be very interesting to hear the BoDs view this Friday, if they are against it I'm just wondering how they can stop what PC started yesterday evening.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
If this is the case then the 75% vote is more likely to succeed, as only those in favour of the proposals - or against, for that matter - will go to the meeting or vote by post or proxy. This would rule out the "apathy vote" that always happens at elections - people who have no strong view either way, or just can't be bothered to vote - as any member who didn't vote would effectively be removed from the equation.Nigel Bamford wrote:That seems to suggest it is 75% of those voting rather than 75% of all membership.DaveP wrote:"Pass a Special Resolution

Re: Monday Nights Meeting with Paul Casson
The team is the manager's concern and relies on the playing budget. The finances of the club (and therefore the playing budget) are the concern of the owner/board. I assume, based on what he's said so far, that his intention is to increase the playing budget available and then leave the rest to the manager. This would necessarily be done either by putting the money in himself, or just by putting the club on a more stable financial footing and allowing the budget to rise in line with the rest of the finances.Shaun wrote:I just wish he'd have focused MORE on the team and progressing up the table(s) and how he planned to do that, rather than the stuff surrounding the team
