No probs Spirit of 1990, I understood the tone of your original post and support your point about the booing - I just wanted to put the record straight re. anything directed at me and the other First Aiders.spirit of 1990 wrote:I wasn't having a go at you or the other first aiders bud, I was actually making a point of saying the abuse & booing wasn't called for & should not have happened.snortypig wrote:
I am one of the First Aiders and I can assure you that such "abuse" is nothing more than ill informed comment from uneducated football fans (sic)
No matter how much the Sean or the other Barrow physio gestures for a stretcher we cannot act on their request as Law 5 states that the Referee ensures that no unauthorised persons enters the field of play.
The initial on-pitch assessment of Shez meant that he was able to make it to the sideline but it then became apparent that he'd need a stretcher to get him to the treatment room. The game had not re-started, Sean indicated a stretcher was needed but we'd just been stood down only to be resummoned and then awaited the referees signal to enter the field of play and get across to Shez.
Everything was done by the book, we follow prescribed protocols. Nuff said.
It's surprising just how many fans, coaches, armchair critics don't actually know the laws of the game.
I coach a junior football team and we played in the Lancs FA cup down in Accrington yesterday and the opposition assistant coach got a tad giddy when one of his players took a throw-in and directed it back at their keeper (in his penalty area) who sliced his clearance. Their coach started going off on one about why the keeper should have just "picked it up and kicked the damn thing" until me and the other Accy coach pointed out that the keeper can't directly handle a throw-in if it's played to them. Cue a very blank, mystified look on original coaches face.
So, I'm right with you regarding the booing and abuse: deffo a poor reflection on some in the crowd.
As an aside......at the next Xrossbar Quiz Night it may be worth having a round of questions on "The Laws of the Game", after all there is only 17 of them!
