Ant Wilson
Re: Ant Wilson
Fair enough i didn't relise he'd had previous knee surgery he was 23 now 27, but it still doesn't merit him being branded a crock he was largely injury free at north ferriby and a hot property , by the way school is spelt like this ! I just think your too quick to write him off , i respect your opinion but I also have mine ,i just hope im right and he gets fit starts banging em in helping us get where we all want our club to be. Always a bluebird..

3 Operations in 12 months is a good definition of a crock.

Re: Ant Wilson
Hang on, are people trying to make out that he was a crock & bad investment because he had a broken foot, a hamstring strain and ONE knee injury before he came here? if that's the case we wouldn't be signing anyone!
They're surely run of the mill injuries for any footballer, it's just unlucky (or perhaps worse now) that he's had them since coming here. If he can stay injury free, I think he'll be a decent player this coming season.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Ant Wilson
The alternative is a club which would be struggling in Conference North at the very best and probably the division below. Paul Casson taking over the club is not only the best thing to happen since the club left the football league but is, in fact, the only thing that has ensured the survival of the club. Yes, there are always dangers of a club relying on the money put in by a rich owner but, at least, there is a chance of some success whereas without the takeover the club was doomed.DaveP wrote:a former member of this forum I won't rise to the bait of your stupidity but the answer is in your final sentence. He sees his legacy as giving us the financial kick start to get into the league with a new ground that can then sustain itself. We have a long way to go and you are right to point out the areas where we are failing but please stop the ludicrous rants and unnecessary tirades because we all know already what you are whinging about but the rest of us are prepared to give the fella a bit of time to prove he means it.
What is the alternative? Do we tell him we don't like the way he's doing things and we want him to go? Well he's not going to is he.
As to the tax question whilst I appreciate your concern they were very different scenarios to our situation which is why I asked you to clarify exactly why you felt the Taxman would be interested. It was a genuine question to you but as usual you stoop to personal name calling etc If you make a point be prepared to be challenged or disagreed with. We are all wrong sometimes.

Im certainly not saying that.
Im saying that this has been an expensive bit of bad business so far and as far 3 knee operations in 12 months go its pretty much it for this level.

I certainly wasn't saying that I was simply answering the guy who said this was his first major injury.spirit of 1990 wrote:Hang on, are people trying to make out that he was a crock & bad investment because he had a broken foot, a hamstring strain and ONE knee injury before he came here? if that's the case we wouldn't be signing anyone!

No you won't rise but youll certainly reply to everything I post thats aimed at you .
WANTS the club to become sustainable. WANTS to. Weve had 12 months of living of his money now and nothing has been put in place so far.
Seen as you like asking questions in a cocky manner ill ask you one.
If cassons money stopped at Midnight tonight. How would we go on? ( for the 150th time in this thread im not talking about where we would be if he hadnt taken over . the takeover is a good thing) What income would keep this club paying Danny Livesey thousands a month if that money went?
I just think 12 months is a good enough time period to get things in place to ensure we don't end up in deep dogger again like we did when we over spent after the trophy final. What has been put in place to prevent this? Nothing! Big plans for the future cost money and its great to see the stadium being looked at ETC , its no use having the best players and the best ground if we don't have funds coming in to run it!
Im not talking about alternatives to our situation. I just want to know how long we can keep paying players 700 quid a week and not have the club shop in full use as a way of making money to pay for the said wages.
You surely must be clever enough to see that. Its very surprising you worked in 'TAX FOR 40 YEARS' , you strike me as an ex teacher.
The taxman would be interested in our club if we keep [SwearFilter] out money and it runs out and we can't afford to pay tax bills then end up playing in Holkers League. Ive worked in Tax for 0 years and even i know the craic with that.

Re: Ant Wilson
a former member of this forum, I appreciate your basic concern (what happens if Casson ups and leaves?), but we've seen absolutely nothing to suggest that's likely
We've also seen absolutely nothing to suggest that we're behind on tax bills, or any other bills. We've also got some evidence of the first stages of work on the pitch, ground and clubhouse.
Nobody expected us to be self sustaining, 10 months after the takeover. Nor did anyone suggest the club shop should be providing any significant proportion of our income by this stage (or at any stage?).
I don't understand why you seem to be panicking like this: If Casson's money stopped at midnight, we'd actually probably be fine. We'd just take on some cheap part time players, revert to part time, not overspend this season and likely drop back down to the Conf North in a season or two.
If his money stopped at random partway through the season, it might be a bit trickier, but considering we're debt free and aren't looking to be spending silly money next year (even if it's slightly beyond our gate receipt means), then even if we had to take out a mortgage on the ground to cover our bills, I doubt we'd end up in any worse a situation than we were before the takeover. The players aren't on stupid money, and it's not like we have no gate receipts or sponsorship income: we'd only have to make up a moderate difference in income:expenditure. It wouldn't be fun, but we could likely do it without long term harm.
Would it be ideal? No. Would it be the end of the club? Probably not. Is it likely? No, we've had no sign of it at all.
He's not put his money into a full refurbishment or rebuild of the ground (yet), but we've seen plenty of evidence of his money being placed where is mouth is, in last year's player budget and other expenses so far. I'm sure we'd all love to see things progress at a lightning pace, but I'd rather do it right and do it once, rather than rush it and get things wrong.

Taking your paragraphs in order.
We might go bust
new businesses take time and I'd expect yes after 40 years overseeing new starts that 2 years is about right but again if it goes wrong we could go bust
We can't we might go bust
never been a teacher, been a tax inspector though!!!!
Taxman would only be interested....wait for it.... if we go bust.
now there is a common thread here is there not.
When we put ourselves into the hands of an owner we put ourselves completely at his mercy. He can now do what he wants. If he chooses to stop putting the money in we could be done for.
All these things are inevitable following the sale. Some may not like it but that's just tough its called the real world and we are stuck with it.
Given we've made this choice it was of course made against a backdrop of the only other option was... yes you've guessed it going bust.
Yes its risky, yes its all at the behest of the owner, yes it could all fall down tomorrow BUT we had no other option and we are stuck with it.
How many times does it have to be spelled out to you. Many of the fans don't like it but accept it is the only thing keeping us in business at all.
Yes things need to change going forward and you and others are right to point it out but if the owner is prepared to bankroll costa whilst the whole club commercial side is revamped then good on him.
I await your considered views.

Re: Ant Wilson
I don't see anything wrong with the concerns a former member of this forum has.
The club are spending well above their means at the moment which is thanks to PC's money but long term this needs to be sustainable.
I think a former member of this forum's main concern is the lack of progress the club are making off the pitch in terms of commercial revenue, merchandise etc. It seems at the moment that nothing is in place to help the club grow.
Don't forget there are financial fair play rules in place in League 2 ( http://www.financialfairplay.co.uk/scmp.php). If we are to gain promotion to League 2 and avoid transfer bans etc then we need to ensure the club is generating enough cash to be sustainable.

Having gone through five pages of the usual close season tit-for-tat may I just say this. As an exiled Barrovian I only have access to t'internet version of the EM. Now my eyesight isn't what it was in the old days but I have yet to see any mention whatsoever anywhere on their webpages of any problem with Mr Wilson's hamstring.

Re: Ant Wilson
No one is saying we should be self sustained NOW.
However, we should still be trying to get as much money in as we can now, people are of the opinion 'We can waste that money cos Casson has a load'
We should still be trying to sell stuff, still be trying to get every sponsor we can etc etc. PC WILL eventually stop putting money in, maybe not soon, but one day. And that day we may think back about the times we had an empty shop and there may come a time we need an extra couple of 100 quid that we didnt care about when we were loaded.
I know PC has the club at heart, and its nothing short of fantastic he is even here, but we still need to look after the pennies.

I read the third " a former member of this forum " then got tired of reading all the bullshit you are spouting.
If you think we can [SwearFilter] money away with nothing else coming in thats fine, we won't be around for as long as Cassons money keeps getting spent like it is.
Just seen the shirts are 50 odd quid for this year. Yet another income stream that'll soon run dry.
