From 1983-84 until 1987 the APL experimented with 3 points for an away win, and 2 for a home win, so any comparison with those seasons also needs to be adjusted.
Interesting, until you both mentioned that I had completely forgotten about and when the change was made, but is hardly makes any difference to the league standings 2 or 3 points.

We had two seasons in the conference with 2 points for a win. We just finish with 53 points instead of 38 in the 1980-81 season, although... In the inaugural season of the conference (Alliance Premier) we would have jumped 1 place over Telford united to 13th by 1 point. This appears to be the only change for Barrow when taking into account the change to 3 points for a win. The first season of 3 points for a win 1981-82 appears to be our best finish 8th with 65 points but with 22 teams and not 24 as it is now.

1981-81 Finished 9th from 20 teams with 38 points (9th and 53 points with 3 points for a win)
1979-80 Finished 14th from 20 teams with 34 points (13th and 48 points with 3 points for a win)

That experiment with 2 points for a home win made no change at all to Barrow, only a few teams would have swapped places. Most noticeable in 84-85 Bath wins the title instead of Wealdstone & Nuneaton comes 2nd, lower down Runcorn slips 3 places. In 85-86 Daganhem gets relegated instead of Wycombe. For Barrow it would have made no difference at all, same positions just a different points tally...

1985-86 Finished 22nd from 22 teams with 24 points (29 points with 3 points for both home & away wins)
1984-85 Finished 18th from 22 teams with 43 points (49 points with 3 points for both home & away wins)

*Hope I'm not so tired I've got the figures & dates all back to front.

A grand day out.

Aldershot have got a lot right off the park. The food is decent and a wide variety, wonder of wonders you can also eat in the bar, which had a decent mix of ales. The stewarding was low key and their home support at least stand together in a reasonable covered block at one end and tried at points to make some noise.

We were pretty good. Very resilient back four against a toothless Aldershot. Livesey played well but for me the pick at the back was Sutton. At one point the two centre halves weren't getting out quite enough and he was giving them absolute pelters- vocal and tough, he put in some crunching tackles- I really hope we sign him on that showing.

We have a midfield. Parry (I think) goes about his business quietly and efficiently and you need a player like him so that enigmas like ARH can flourish. Haworth seems to have woken up to the fact his career is at a crossroads and played with a bit of guile and effort- fair play. Jordan Williams was simply relentless.

Tomlinson was all running and movement, a bit like a higher quality Gavin Knight and Cooky was Cooky and got us the goal. They are big, tough and know their jobs.

We got right behind them after half time particularly and although maybe the players could have shown a bit more appreciation at the end, memories of some of the stick taken earlier in the season for some are still sore- fair enough, there's lots off the pitch just now that will take a summer to settle down and everyone taking a deep breath.

There was a wooden cockerel, Judge Dredd novelty songs a lot of drink and 90s Trance. All of which made sense at the time.

Up wi the Cox!

Steve covered most things in his good Summary, a grand day out at Aldershot! It looked a decent playing surface and I got talking to an Aldershot fan who said it was the Stamford Bridge pitch that was lifted and relaid for the Shots at the end of last season made sense as the Chelsea under 21's also play at Aldershot. http://www.gethampshire.co.uk/sport/foo ... ot-7060389

I thought they were happy just to try and stifle our attacks whilst offering very little going forward themselves. We kept on knocking on the door and finally got the answer through Cookie who found the space required by evading their giant number six Oliver and headed home what proved to be the well deserved winner. A very good all-round team performance with a hat-trick of wins who would of thought it possible a few week ago!

A big ask but there is hope that maybe come next season we may indeed be up with the Cox. :scarf: :scarf:

Thanks, so tired I didn't notice I had just put 'home' instead of 'home & away'. Figures are correct though, I've changed original post.
