The abolition of the NWDA was also a factor in pausing progress on the Waterfront projects.

Back on message and true to form apparently the Council are sticking all sorts of obstacles in PC's way re stadium development.
That had nowt to do with the EU, the recession put paid to that, folk absolutely love owt like dragging a conversation onto the EU even when it has nothing remotely to do with the EU at the moment.
I think it does and here’s my reasoning; in the 80s I used to visit Ireland every now and then, I couldn’t believe the changes I saw with their towns, cities and infrastructure throughout that time with EU money. The EU are still pumping millions into them http://ec.europa.eu/ireland/press_offic ... ork_en.htm. http://www.irishtimes.com/news/environm ... -1.2502851. Locally we have had ONE redevelopment project which amounted to a road, some drawings and some slow worm studies and then the plug was pulled. We are supposed to be in the UK/EU and contributing a lot more than Ireland.

Please no more on the EU - don't we get enough! There's a thread on the Off Topics page, for anyone interested.

Regarding the redevelopment of Holker Street - I'd rather we move to another location.
All the bo**ocks about it being itimidating to opposing teams etc etc is nonsense! I've been attending home games since the 70s and even when we attracted 5-7,000 it was never THAT intimidating. It's gloomy, can be cold even in spring/summer, and it's miles away from most places in the town. I had a soft spot for The Holker End (when it had a roof) but apart from that and the vast improvements to the playing surface, it doesn' t have a lot going for it.
I vote to LEAVE :D

Our problem was UK Government funding, not EU funding - it was the funding from Westminster that was cut, because our project was early enough in the planning stages that they could just scrap it.

Blame London, not Brussels: Barrow's Marina failing has absolutely nothing to do with the EU. But by all means, hand more power back to our London-Centric government if you want, they'll just carry on ignoring Cumbria/The North in general as they always have.
