Hardly...Edmo nice bloke but just didn't have the know how at this level....you think he did?

Absolutely true, no doubt about that.

Behave you fool. The cats out of the bag and it's well known now what Coxy was up to.

Edmo achieved promotion with probably one of the biggest budgets in the league at the time (if not even now) Any manager worth anything in football could've done that. Record transfer fees, yes can't knock the manager/scout for that.

I happen to think Pennock is a better manager at this level than Edmo and I think he's a more genuine person than Coxy.

You seem to have a unhealthy desire to slate everything that the club does. I wonder why?
Because i dont agree with alot of what happens at the club. U dont either - that's why u resigned.
If that was the case would he not be on here agreeing with you?

The raiders to me have more of a local community feel about them. They have a good mix of local/
non-local players, local coaching staff and local directors. You can go in the gym and see the players, they don't strut around, they're normal guys who work during the day and play for the love of the game at the highest level they can. You can go on a night out and see them out. You can go in your local playzone with the kids and they'll be in there with their kids.... if you need your roof doing, the coach can do it for you! The directors and coaching staff are well respected and experienced in local rugby and business - they know what's needed. The junior set up, is run by experienced coaches, has one age group who have a realistic chance of making the first team, and then operate several coaching camps. They have excellent links with the local league, play on a different day to local teams. Several local players play at super league level and lads from this town have realistic expectations that the club and coaches can assist them in their dreams. The social media is excellent, they have posters across town and a shop in the centre of town which is well stocked and open regularly. Season tickets and shirts are always out early, you can have a drink at the game, the club organise coaches to away games and supporters have a relationship with the club in fundraising for their needs. The commercial side offers a warm box, buffet and a fridge full of beer, there are then interviews and music in the bar, it pretty much sells out for the season

In short, local people feel a connection and want to be involved .

The football, well they train in Rochdale, the manager is from the opposite corner of the country, the majority of players won't stop over, the club is owned by one person. We have no local players, but the ones we do have are paid a full time wage and lack motivation. The performance side is run by local lads with no experience at the clubs level, boasts about players playing in the evostick and hasn't produced any players for the club. The kids know the chance of playing in the first team is highly unlikely. You might get the chance to meet the owner at a specially arranged forum, same with the manager and players. The commercial side is aimed purely at business and
not for a good day out, the prices have been raised and it's a sit down meal .

Can’t agree we should have kept Edmo his management skills had run their course. As for Mr Cox his whole modus operandi had run it’s course.
Concerning the rugby good luck to them but remember how bad they have been hardly a shining example even though they have recently had a few good games, hopefully they are in a boom period.
As for complaining about the lack of pies we should be able to survive such a tragedy, tighten our belt and all that.
The training and set up for the soccer is different it has to be if they adopted a parochial set up like the rugby we would pretty soon come to grief. If the rugby want to go higher they will be very lucky if they can do it with a mainly local team.
Quite frankly this whole thread appears to be just another chance for people to moan.
In fact a golden opportunity for the usual suspects.

I think the rugby have accepted what they are Mike. For me they are more concerned about developing the club for the local community and giving local players an opportunity to better themselves. They know they aren't going to get into super league anytime soon and are making the most of what they've got through strong local links and positivity. It really is a good day out, regardless of the score.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love both clubs to do well, but at the moment I don't feel the football club is ours, it just seems to be a club that happen to play here and go under the name of Barrow. Maybe expectations are to high, maybe the focus shouldn't have been on results but on establishing ourselves amongst our community and slowly but surely edging to and beyond the 2000 mark.

+1. I follow both clubs and much prefer the rugby experience at present and it is not just about results. It’s because what’s outlined above. I rarely comment on here as always feel posters will get extensive negativity from certain strong willed / over opinionated individuals but I value each persons opinion and right to share them as this what is on forums.

Everyone has some negativity on forums, have a look at the rugby forum, the above outlined positive aspects still getting a hammering from those who do little but criticise a lot.. from personal perspective we can live in the and past talk about Edmo , cox , Wilkie or whoever which we’re entitled to do, but it won’t change the current situation , we can be critical of manager , CEO, deputy or whoever comments made 2 years ago and express how aggrieved we are at no outcome, but again it won’t change the present situation.. are we better off now than we were 10, 5, 3,1 years ago only you will decide but It is what it is no matter how hard you type your messages.. (obviously it makes you feel better getting out there)..

The rugby started this season with the coach being brutally honest with his team and the fans“we want to stay up” the fans are backing this team to do that and look at the league table (albeit after 3 games ) loss, draw + win against the 3 full time team two of which are super league Pros with clubs spending millions.the gate was still decent too..

BARROW AFC has a future with the owners and my personal opinion for what it’s is there’s more bumps along this road than we care to imagine but if we get behind the team we may just be that extra special man that many on here say we need go out and by.
Just my opinion. Have a nice day.

Of course I don't/didn't agree with everything that the club does, that was not the reason I resigned though - I've already explained why on another thread, as did Trust committee members....people ought to stop trying to throw conspiracy theories into the mix.

Out of interest, did you ever have another account on here?

I find it really odd, strange even how people find the time to come up with all the conspiracy theories Elaine.

BTW, great post bluebird90. Don't agree with it all but very good.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Strange that. If Casson knew "what Cox was up to" , then why stick with him over the summer? If he was that untrustworthy, surely he should have cashed in when Hartlepool showed interest and got the manager he wanted to take the club forward.

In that case let him go for free. If he was that bad, was "clearly wanting out" and was that disruptive then maybe the smart move would have been to let him go for nothing / a smaller amount.

He left for free anyway months later when the money started to tighten up , making his job a lot harder. That lead to Barrow paying out a contract for the next 2.5 years for a manager in MM, who clearly was not the right person for the job.

I'll give you that one, he should've let him go but hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it? Perhaps Paul Casson was holding out hoping they would find the money to buy out his contract, perhaps it was stubbornness, perhaps he was holding him back as pay-back for all he'd been up to for the previous six months...who knows? It doesn't change the fact that he'd been doing what people now know he'd been doing going back to pre-Christmas. I remember having a phone conversation with Paul Casson last year about just that question, not that I'm letting you into what was said but it sort of made sense as things stood at the time.

If he was this non league Pep Guardiola that you seem to think he is how come he was sacked at Mansfield, left/pushed? at Torquay, left/pushed at Barrow and sacked at Guiseley? not great on a CV is it? Three of those clubs gave him for the most part what he always says he needs - money, but it still wasn't enough to save him.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
