I remember Ipswich, late 70s early 80s. I remember them too well.
My lovely home town, Barrow, knocked them out of the FA Cup tonight. I never imagined that when I was a kid.

Football is a bit special and magical isn't it.

Can’t fault that display tonight, absolutely smashed it that first half then they made two (or three) changes which turned the tide slightly. We weathered that very well though. Ref wasn’t great but thankfully his average display didn’t come to haunt us.
After a dodgy month or so Gotts and Stevens have hit that form they had early on for us.
Zanzalla did nothing tonight to change my view of him.

A superb team effort and advert for Barrow AFC. Great to see to two excellent goals in a first half where we totally dominated Ipswich’s starting eleven and we were “up for the cup” throughout.

Barrow looked the team most likely to score from the start. In the 26th minute a Grayson corner was played short for Gotts to put in an excellent cross for Stevens to fire in from the edge of the area.

Four minutes later a fast run by Stevens down the right wing found Gotts, who fired the ball just wide.

Another five minutes on and we were 2-0 up. A ball into the area by Stevens created mayhem, initially blocked but then Brough’s header found Gotts who blasted the ball into the roof of the net.

Despite two changes by the visitors at half time, Ipswich still struggled to break us down and we did have further chances.

In the 58th minute a Grayson free kick was played short to Gotts to cross, Stevens shooting wide.

There were two further changes by the visitors in the 68th and 75th minute (an injury) before we changed any of our own starting eleven.

In the 79th minute Kay and Hutton came on for Stevens and Brown, and three minutes later Zanzala replaced Gordon.

The fresh legs inspired some great defending and some breakaways. The closest the visitors got to goal was in the closing quarter hour. Vincent-Young crossed dangerously along the line in the 80th minute- with no-one to apply the finishing touch. Six minutes later Brough cleared off the line- and then tested Walton with a cross at the other end seconds later. In the first of six minutes of added time, Farman pulled off a great save from close range narrow-angle Donacien shot. Two minutes later, Kay had a goal disallowed for Barrow at the other end.

Attendance was 2,765 including 202 visiting fans. Gotts was Barrow’s man of the match, substituted by Ellis in the final minute of the game to an ovation. It was a great team performance with everyone putting in a fantastic shift and there was another lengthy ovation when the final whistle blew. Well done lads- a well-earned trip to Barnsley in the 3rd round in the New Year. What a brilliant night for all at Barrow AFC!

The crowd was lower than hoped but more than made up for it with constant backing from the off. The support was magnificent tonight.

Magnificent! To beat the 1969 League cup winners and the 1978 FA cup winners in the space of 5 days without conceding a goal is something I never thought I’d see at Holker St. Congratulations to the board , management team and the players. We don’t get to the 3rd round often. The FA cup still has its romance . Let’s take a big crowd to Barnsley and have a splendid day out.

We really are being spoilt at the moment: we’ve faced a Premier League team at home in the league cup, we’ve just knocked one of the big traditional names of English football out of another cup, we’ve been on TV 3 times already this season (have a feeling they’ll stick the Barnsley replay on as well…..) we took 1600+ fans to a league fixture; and it’s only December! Caller to Radio Cumbria tonight said she goes with her 80 year old Grandad and he can’t ever remember having it so good, we should all (myself included) remember that some times when we are having a grumble!

First half tonight we were magnificent, finally the real blend of being solid at the back but also fast flowing attacking football as we go forward as well. Second half Ipswich came on strong as expected but in the main we defended well (thought Farman had probably his most solid all round game since he joined us tonight) and throughly deserved the win. Whoever snaps up Gotts in the summer will be a lucky team, how the heck we managed to sign him on a permanent transfer I will never know

Yes it wasn't really one of those where you dig out a great result from adversity in front of a frenzied crowd. Its rare that you see a plan executed so well against a higher ranked side. In truth we never looked like not winning from the very start. Feels a bit anticlimactic in that sense. But that was because the performance was so good. The crowd was a reflection of a mid week replay after a saturday game and I have to say sadly a general lack of enthusiasm nationally for the early rounds of this competition. Shouldn't disguise the fact though that was one of the most complete Cup performances I've ever seen from a BAFC side.

And another thing , I hope you were watching, Scott Quigley. Money is not everything. We ain’t Stockport County but we have spirit . If you’d stayed we’d be in the top 4 of this league , and you’d be a hero and would have loved it. Just saying .

Everyone did well tonight. Played some really good stuff 1st half and showed a lot of spirit and fight in the second. Brilliant win.

The first 45 was some of the best football I've seen us play for a while and we scored twice from open play. They made changes but we dealt with what they had to offer. A great result and this performance may boost confidence for up and coming league games.
