It’s about time we beat Carlisle in the league. Just imagine the meltdown if it is next week.

I did think Barrow were better than "not much quality". I think we have some very good players and it was a decent game. We had a strong bench as well as decent starting eleven.
Great to get 3 points, and promising signs.

I think they were on about the final third,we offered nothing here Newby and Mahoney didn't create anything, so Clemence as a lot of work to do here .

Mahoney had the assist for the goal and created a chance for himself second half having a shot pushed round the post. Decent debut IMO.

Game of chances ultimately we took ours with both hands whilst Crewe go on to curse their luck after creating two gilt edged opportunities. Some very promising signs after a nip and tuck opening fifteen mins we dominated the last 30 mins going into the break in front on merit by a well taken Theo Vassel goal. Second half they dominated the possession stakes in the main but hardly troubled us as in a goal threat.
More positives than negatives with Spence, Garner, Jackson and our complete defensive line putting in shifts. Gotts and Kouyate getting in some game time too. Canavan looked like he had never been away and Rory Feely was tireless in his work ethic and hopefully continues to learn game by game.

Not a spectacular performance but looks like a good work in progress. Thought Crewe looked a good side how they moved the ball. Can’t compain at all with the result. Like others have said a really strong bench. So far so good.

Very similar possession wise etc to last season really; difference was today we took our chance and they hit the woodwork three times with theirs. Campbell and Spence as good a central midfield partnership as any in this league imho

Great win today - can't ask for more than a decent performance and 3 points. Well done lads!
Regarding the whole radio coverage thing, it's always been this way sadly (certainly back as far as the early '90s when I first started listening to it from afar). Having not lived in Barrow for a long time now, Radio Cumbria and iFollow (and previously of course the great Barrow Soccer Hotline) have been really important. However, the very obvious favouring of Carlisle is bloody annoying. You could kind of forgive it in the past when they were a Football League club and we weren't but, when the clubs are in the same league (as they have been 3 of the last 4, including this one), you'd think it'd be fair to have equal coverage. Instead, the build-up programme seems to go Carlisle, 'round the grounds, back to Carlisle, 'round the grounds, Carlisle and - after the match - it's Carlisle, input from Adam, Carlisle, some other teams, supporter messages from Carlisle, supporter messages from Barrow etc. Okay, so Barrow fans don't get involved as much - fair enough - but, as someone else said, the show doesn't (and shouldn't) revolve around that; surely it should be a pretty equal split between the two clubs who are, after all, in the same league, plus fair coverage of the teams too. Adam does a bloody brilliant job by the way. Having had to listen to various away commentators on iFollow who are so partisan it's ridiculous, hearing a proper professional giving a balanced account of the game when you're not able to be there is always appreciated, so thanks to Adam for that. It's more the RC hierarchy who get this wrong. Barrow fans (and correct me if I'm wrong here) don't really give a toss about Carlisle; it's not really a derby in the traditional sense (85 miles away ffs) and they seem to dislike us more than we care about them. Yes, we want to beat them, but it feels like most fans more riled by the fact they're seen as a proper club in a way that we're not. Today we had the Carlisle pundits basically saying they'd won the game in all areas bar the result, whilst the other League 2 club in the the 'county' actually won yet received very little coverage during the same show compared to them. Okay so RC is based in Carlisle (since the Barrow studio shut it was always going to lead to more Carlisle-focused coverage) but to have all their games on FM and Barrow's on the frankly rubbish AM frequency seems wrong, and to have all shows led from Carlisle by Carlisle pundits about Carlisle seems wrong too. Adam should present every other week from Barrow, and ours should be the lead game surely; it's hard to understand how this isn't the case. Think about stations like BBC Radio Manchester, or Radio Merseyside - are they solely based at the club perceived as being 'bigger' with some lesser input from the other one? No, course not - there'd be riots if they did that! Must stress again, Adam does a fine job; it's the balance that's wrong. Okay, rant over.

It's all about listener numbers. Carlisle have a fan base that two or three times what ours is so there fore they will always attract more listeners to Radio Cumbria. If the station favoured Barrow the listener numbers would drop off as we just cannot compete with the fan base Carlisle have. FWIW we get decent coverage ge from Radio Cumbria its just a pity more don't get involved in the after match debate by txting in. Like. Adam has alluded to tonight he cannot do much if Barrow fans don't get involved. As for the frequency its perfect on a DAB radio I have no issues.

Fair enough - there may be more listeners up there but the ridiculous imbalance is surely out of kilter even with that! Thing is, it’s a chicken and egg thing - fewer Barrow fans listen in/get involved because - historically - it’s been always skewed towards Carlisle and, because of that, it perpetuates. I’d still argue that clubs in the same league deserve equal billing, from a professionalism point of view if nothing else. Even down to - and I know this sounds petty - the strapline of RC being the ‘home of Carlisle and Barrow’ (or whatever it is); if teams are in the same league, you’d think it’d be done alphabetically! I know that sounds daft but it’s all part of the problem.

Solid. Not great. Not spectacular. Crewe were very well drilled. Like Bell as a coach. They played the ball on the ground and we defended it really well. Vasell, Jackson and Canavan were immense. Feely decent though made a couple of mistakes. Spence and Campbell key in midfield. Mahoney decent. Acquah toiled but had Demetriou up his backside for much of the game.

Based on that I don’t think either side will be in real danger this season. There’s more to come in forward areas. For the first time I saw what Clemence was about today and I’m encouraged.

Next week will show how clever Clemence is. Think we are playing Carlisle at a good time. It would be brilliant if we were really good but I think we can be equally as dangerous by being smart. There is a frisson of panic at Brunton Park after today. We can exploit that.

Good result to kick off the season.

Regarding radio, very rarely listen to it but I did have it on after game today and I would have been fuming if I was Adam and cut off mid sentence like he was. Why couldn’t they record Paul Simpson and play after Adam had finished, but get what Adam said about no participation from barrow fans. We get some radio coverage, it is definitely biased towards Carlisle, but what we have is better than nothing. To be fair, as I don’t get to many games would rather read what’s in here about matches than listen to radio, that’s just my preference.
everyone is entitled to their opinion, deal with it
