Born in Urmston near Manchester never lived in Barrow but all my family came from Barrow. I blame everything on my grandad! Took me to Old Trafford in 1961 so became a United fan. Then took me to my first game at Holker Street in early 61-62 season and became a Barrow fan. Have led this dual life of supporting these two teams. Naturally Barrow lost the first game I saw - cannot remember for the life of me who we played but I was told by the rest of the family I was in a foul mood for the rest of the day. Nothing changes. Little did I know this is what it meant to be a Barrow fan some highs and lots of lows and frustrations. Some of the lows include, like another post said, Alfreton when we lost 4-0 and made relegation a certainty even though mathematically we could have stayed up. The team capitulated in that second half such a depressing evening and, of course, the 1972 moment when we failed to get re-elected. The highs for me are the 2020 return to the EFL the 2010 Trophy final win and every victory Barrow has! I suppose one thing I have succeeded in is that my son, daughter and all my grandkids are Barrow fans. And two of my grandkids will be mascots for the Walsall came in April. What more can anyone ask for!

That's an interesting observation and one probably worthy of a non-footballing thread. I like to think of my relationship with BAFC as a 60 year old marriage. Born in the throws of youthful passion in the 60s; threatened by life's trials and tribulations in the 70s and 80s; re-kindled in the 90s and 00s and finally maturing into tolerance and understanding in the teens. The last 5 years have been an unexpected renaissance.

The point about the lack of younger contributions is well made. Two things I would say. Firstly, don't conflate the number of younger supporters in the club with the number of contributions from forum members. They aren't the same. Secondly, and related to the first point, the forum (not only ours) very much reflects "old technology" these days. Whilst technically speaking it does qualify as social media, increasingly it does not reflect the ways younger people prefer to communicate with each other. And what you cant say in less than 100 characters is not really worth saying....apparently.

Born and Bred Barrovian, first game Leicester City at home FA Cup 1968, got in late with my dad and brother but managed to work my way to the front (as kids do) Alas a 1-2 defeat, can remember that bizarre own goal by Brian Arrowsmith and a towering header by John Sjoberg (just looked his name up) Cant remember Barrow's goal (David Storf) at all but Peter Shilton was in goal for them.

Very proudly born (1960) and bred Barrow! Victoria infants & juniors, then BBGS, then buggered off to university in London, 1979.
Been living in Pennsylvania the last 20 years, and love that I can watch the Bluebirds on a Saturday morning / Midweek afternoons live online - now that we are back in the EFL.
Currently get home (always will be Barrow) regularly and get to as many games as I can.
Can’t remember my first game, but must have been late 60’s. Remember being in Mrs. Knox’s (Bobby’s wife) class when we received news of the drop from the league - very sad. Have followed since, during mostly bad times, from afar. Attended 1991 & 2010 Wembley visits and remember them being great days - results proving it.
This is a great subject for the forum - I am convinced that I was at school with a couple of the contributors, judging by previous posts.

Like the bit about it being like a marriage,the only thing is you can divorce and that's it Barrow AFC is in your blood.

Those who have stuck with the club have seen alot of trial and tribulations .
If we moan it's because we've seen the worst and don't want to go back there.

It was a time where a foreigner in the team was a Welsh ,Irish or Scots player

Weve achieved something I never thought we would get back in the League.

We were voted out now it's all in our own hands.
Hopefully we will survive and rebuild.

Barrow born and bred. Left in 1971 when I got a job in Manchester. Moved around the country and currently living on the south coast. I haven't been able to persuade my sons to give any allegiance to Barrow, but they did enjoy the trip to Wembley in 1990 and shaking the hand of Ray Wilkie and touching the trophy. Age and geography mean i don't get to games.

Born in Barrow (in Lancashire) in 1966, brought up in Urswick and schooled in Ulverston. Moved from Urswick to Barrow in 1998.
1st game was a Lancashire Junior Cup game against Accrington in 1980. I think we won either 3-0 or 3-1 and Nigel Keen possibly got a hat-trick??? It's a long time ago...
Favourite games;- Wembley (x2), The Enfield 4 game semi final in the 1987-88 season.

Barrow born and been coming since I was a young lad with a mates dad. Following that when in school I'd never miss a home game with my mates (even the cold setanta shield nights) which is something I wouldn't be able to do now under current rules that I still think need addressing desperately as we are alienating a generation. In my early 30s now and after missing a few years of Saturday's due to open age local football commitments I'm back with a season ticket and have been for several years and loving it as much as ever. Enjoyed reading all the stories on here

Hi I am Barrow born & bred, I played in a Barrow shirt firstly as a 15 year old in 1967 for the A team our home ground was Furness Abbey amphitheatre, we slid in the cowpats when making slide tackles from 10 yards away.(wouldn't be allowed now). I played for the under 18s for Colin Appleton when we were in the old 3rd division was offered an apprenticeship but turned it down then came back to Bafc after playing for many local teams in 1980 to play for the reserves alongside Cowpes Kenny Gordon, and Kevin Brocklebank. Moved away around Scotland for 30 years and now live in Newcastle area. I follow Barrows progress from a distance and just a lurker on here but always interested to hear whats going on from afar. Keep up the banter as we are all Barrow wherever we are
