EFL could return on 6 June

The English Football League could resume as early as 6 June if conditions in the country permit, Forest Green chairman Dale Vince has said.

The bodies in charge of professional football in England are continuing talks on how the game can safely resume amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A return to action in June is the target, and Vince told the PA news agency: “6 June tallies with what I think. I don’t think it’s going to happen before that and it might still be optimistic to think it happens on that day.

“We’re all in the same situation – none of us know because it’s not actually in our hands.

"I would say 6 June is probably the earliest but a number of things have to come together for that to happen, it could easily be a week or two later.”

League Two clubs will hold their weekly conference call on Thursday, and Vince says the restart will be the main item on the agenda.

The EFL want to get the season finished - and whether they can or not is the big question - however as far as relegation from the EFL goes they only need to play enough games to ensure Stevenage are mathematically down which could be as little as 5 of their remaining 10 games. I would be surprised if they can even safely manage that though.

1st hour of the evening show tonight on Radio Cumbria is pretty much Barrow orientated including a live interview with Ian Dennis who will no doubt shed some more light on the written pieces that have been on the BBC website the last couple of days

Doswells view has a lot of merit in it. Regionalisation in some form at least for a period may have to be seriously considered. His particular illustration does have a few potential flaws in it though and is a typical view from a lower league upwards.

Firstly, regionalisation may have to be adapted to include at least League 2 so many of the clubs in the NLS and NLN may have to drop down a level. Would they be happy to do that? Secondly I'd be surprised if the three "winners" of the NL/NLS/NLN would hesitate for a moment to claim promotion. Very few ever do that. And if they did that they would run a serious risk of a loss of support that lack of ambition brings. Thirdly if we had to regionalise why would we need two leagues of 24. Why not two leagues of 18 or 20 if we are changing it? Lastly if our immediate future lies behind closed doors what difference does it matter if we are regionalised? Helps with expenses but doesn't generate any income. And would we all be queuing for an on-line ticket to watch a game against Farsley Celtic?

Boreham Wood have voted to cancel the playoffs despite being in 5th place.

The club have also written to the National League saying they don't think any promotions or relegations should take place.

I feel this is ultimately going to come down to the clubs and basically our fate sits within that. The National league will then turn round and say “well it was the clubs who determined it in the end”. Let’s just hope within that we have enough support for promotion.

My view is null and void puts promotion and relegation between the league and national league in jeopardy in the future so I'm hoping they won't go down that route

Yer he’s discussing the possibilities the league have proposed then his personal opinion which is that there’s no chance play offs will happen (he’s correct there)

The most interesting part was the last few minutes when they asked him if he thought Barrow should go up
