Re: New Manager
Has there been any official statement from Barrow AFC board? most of what I have read in Evening Mail is their assumption, no real official facts.
Do think the BOD should grow some and at least make some kind of official statement at least.
Yesterday was a disaster and all that is going on at this time wont help improve things ,if allowed to continue.

Earlier post edited as it seems like the leak to the press came from the Wukkie end.

Thats what every caretaker feels like.PRR wrote:I feel sorry for Meeks in all of this. Regardless of whether you think he should have got the job or not, he is now expected to manage the team knowing full well the board want somebody else. Until we have a new manager in place I cannot see us winning another game. The fact this has dragged on so long is worrying, we had no contingency in place for the sacking of bayliss other than let Meeks manage until we have a new manager, and we have somehow f'ed that up too. Lowest ever point in our history right now. Spineless, clueless and an embarrassment (and that's being generous).

But not every caretaker is interviewed for the job and rejected and then expected to continue.KHayman wrote:Thats what every caretaker feels like.PRR wrote:I feel sorry for Meeks in all of this. Re: New Manager
But there was nothing to stop the Workington board talking to the press and that's exactly what's happened. They are the ones who blabbed to the press about our approach. Unfortunately, our board is now out on a limb because everybody knows what's happening but they can't, and won't acknowledge it. Oh, and Edmondson himself who circled around the question yesterday even though his own chairman has openly admitted it.barrowfan wrote:I get the impression the board are hedging their bets. If for any reason Edmondson doesn't come, they can move on to another candidate, having never admitted publicly their interest in Edmondson.
Obviously 'someone' has spoken to the press to put them in the picture, presumably someone on the board.
Wouldn't be surprised if that 'someone' now regrets their action big style.
It should all have been kept behind closed doors until a new manager, whether that be Edmondson or A.N. Other, was officially in place.
It all comes 'round again.
Re: New Manager
Fair comment - I hadn't realised it came from their end - my apologies to our BOD. As you say they have been put in a terrible position.Nigel Bamford wrote:But there was nothing to stop the Workington board talking to the press and that's exactly what's happened. Makes you wonder if when the approach came their board saw it as an excuse to get rid of DE and get some compo. Seems like their Chairman was the only one backing him. I see the statement posted on their website yesterday has been withdrawn with accusations that it did not represent the view of the club.
Seems they are in a worse mess than us!
Re: New Manager
Do not like how Barrow have gone about this Edmondson business at all. If they wanted a change of direction- they could have spent the rest of this season putting the plans in place (ie- securing a facility to move training closer to Furness etc), keeping Meechin till the end of the season, then moved for Edmondson at the end of this season when he was put of contract and with a whole close season for him to do he his own thing.
It's just an embarrassing mess. As if Edmondson is going to travel for two and half hous a week, twice a week for training.
Groundwork has not been done.

Re: New Manager
Theres a thousand things i wish i could say, but i'm a professional person so will have to keep it brief.
We are in a situation where we have created a detailed criteria for the role of manager and how said person will work to push the club forward. As already alluded to, this will include closer work with the development squad, schools and the local area as a whole. We carried out interviews with some candidates, all of which were excellent and had their own merits.
As well as looking at those who applied formally it was decided we would look at other managers who hadn't applied but may fit our criteria. The subsequent press coverage is out of our hands.
I can't say much more than that unfortunatly, other than to say we've all spent a fair few man hours this week trying to get the situation closed out and start a new chapter for the club. I'm personally very excited by the plans we have in place and i look forward to presenting them at a meet the manager night which will be arranged as soon as the situation is sorted.
I know thats not telling a lot, but its all i can say at the moment.

Re: New Manager
Thanks peter,it's great that we are looking for a change in direction but i think what's alarming a lot of fans is the timing of it all!
To be honest the manager is going to have a tough enough job as it is,l just hope that all these things planned don't let us loose focus of the main job i.e.staying up!
i'm almost certain that's what happened with the developement bid.
you don't have to reply i am not trying to set you up!
Cheers

Re: New Manager
The clubs number 1 priority is to stay in this league and acheive safety as quickly as possible. Everything else is very important but that has to be the main aim.blue nige wrote:Thanks peter,it's great that we are looking for a change in direction but i think what's alarming a lot of fans is the timing of it all!

Re: New Manager
Ironic that the bloke who once said 'I would walk on broken glass to manage Barrow' (Fact, because I was there when he said it) may be out of a job in the next few weeks. With Uwe Rossler defecting to Wigan Peter Farrell is now joint caretaker manager at Brentford but obviously could be pushed out by a new boss.

He was Head of Youth Development at Bolton too, if we're after a manager+ type appointment.
