Re: Barrow V A team called Brackley
considering the weather I thought the attendance was fairly decent - I am sure some were also on holidays - Had there been a bit more work in promoting the game especially given the cheaper prices for kids - it might have been a bit more.
It often drops off after the first game because we start to lose - if we can get into winning ways then who knows - plus once the rugby season ends we often pick up a few more. People want to be entertained too and yesterday that was lacking.
In terms of yesterdays game it really was terrible often I've been at a game and think yeah we were bad but we showed some promise - I didn't see one glimmer of promise yesterday - it was dreadful

It's borne out of frustration Ian.Reg wrote:spirit of 1990 wrote:
That isn't having a go at anyone, but it's no good saying something isn't working without coming up with a way to fix it!
Totally understand that Paul but I'll keep going back to, & stick by my point that it does NO good whatsoever people just slating the Board & sounding like a scratched record by calling for them to step down without having some sort of plan in place to back up their call's.
I worry that if they do decide to withdraw their services because they've had fill of the accusations, back stabbing & whatever else is flying their way, who would step up? I'm totally serious about this because from all the debates about what they do wrong (& don't get me wrong, there's plenty that they could very easily improve on) I've never seen ONE person step up apart from Peter & that bloke from a couple of years ago.
If that Board stepped down with immediate effect where the [SwearFilter] would that leave us?
Going back to John Mackay, I won't even go into what that bloke does for the club because you'd have to be daft to not realise, but to see comments like Chief's about him being a "busy fool" is just insulting to a man who puts in so much - but that seem's to be Chief's normal way with people who don't agree with him. (I await the tirade from him myself now)
I personally think yesterdays comments from John were down to him being put in a corner & having all sorts fired at him from all sides, I don't know exactly what he said but it does sound as though he could have worded things better as it's quite plainly upset a few people.
Yesterday just got totally out of hand.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

I agree, you need to back off Chief, along with a few others.
If the board stepped down and wanted their money out, we are finished. End of !!!!

Re: Barrow V A team called Brackley
was there any sponsors for yesterdays game? the offical site would suggest not http://www.barrowafc.com/livematch.php?fix=475
this to me is just another example of how 1 week into the season the same simple mistakes are being made.
if there was sponsors and I was one of them as a business owner I would be annoyed my name want even mentioned on the offical club web site. ( then I suppose blame would then be deflected to miller waite).
if there wasn't any sponsors. then 3 months after the last season finished and not finding/or looking for sponsors is just unacceptable when they said 30,000 was needed

that's good then,
but as I said above if I was one of these I would be questioning the club as to why it says no sponsor on website,
its basic stuff isn't it

If that's missing off the offficial site you are entirely correct - it's wrong.boyliegladbach wrote:but as I said above if I was one of these I would be questioning the club as to why it says no sponsor on website,

I'll say it again, too few directors to run a club this size. I would absolutely love for another four or five people with the time, experience & dedication to put themselves up for election at the AGM.
The club has to change the way it run's itself & it needs to involve more volunteer's.

Agreed, there are enough people officially connected with the club who will see to see Spirit of 1990’s comments, and one of them should update the club's website.

Excellent point, if I was in LA14-land, would offer to stand.

Agreed, everyone needs to take a deep breath, and start again. If Chief's comments were given as a form of constructive criticism, then those who responded in the way they did should take a second deep breath and consider their response.
It should only take a moment to remember that we all have the club’s best interests at heart, just have different perspectives on how to achieve them. No-one involved in this debate wants the club to suffer, and each side needs to realise this.
Things are, slowly, getting better, the work of the Maintenance Group, co-ordinated by Spirit of 1990 and his worthy volunteers, are a breath of fresh air, and show what can be done, and I can’t help thinking that such a programme would have been impossible to get off the ground a few years ago, and I believe it is also in no small measure by the efforts made behind the scenes by John Mackay.
Yes, John’s reply may have been clumsy, but how many people on this forum can say they have never written or said something similar?
There are many ways the club can improve, and I believe the AGM may well provide the opportunity for some of these to be debated, before then, we all need to take that deep breath, and give people the benefit of doubt.

This is absolutely not true.Ralph wrote:

Maintenance group aside, things are getting worse and worse.
The BOD, and different sections of the fan base are getting more and more fragmented on seemingly a weekly basis and one can only imagine what an absolute mess the club is in financially, which when finally revealed could potentially polarise the factions even further.
Unfortunately, I'm working when the AGM is being held and am unable to get out of it but it can't come soon enough. Hopefully the whole picture will be a lot clearer after that and there will be a visible way out of the sorry mess we all find ourselves in.

Re: Barrow V A team called Brackley
The picture won't become clearer at the AGM as the accounts will only be those up until 30 June 2012 (the season before last) when the crowds were ok and we finished 13th. Last season was the financial disaster when the crowds dropped to under 1000 and we'll presumably have to wait around another year to see those accounts. However at this AGM I expect the board to say about how they've lent the club 250K to keep it going, around 75K of this loan is from BK's business.Reg wrote:This is absolutely not true. I think the board could help themselves so much if they accepted more fans help and they need to set up something to enable this to happen and not just reject all the suggestions because they don't trust us. The AGM won't be the place to discuss this but I think something could be set up to enable this to happen. There's so much that people have offered to help out with the board have been foolish to turn people down. The present board can't manage everything as it is so they need to accept help when its offered but when will they as the present situation cannot continue.
Re: Barrow V A team called Brackley
An underwhelming start to the season. We struggled to create chances, and called their 'keeper into service just once. The conditions - both weather and pitch - and early season uncertainty stifled any quality on both sides. We didn't have a pattern or focus to our play, and lacked width and purpose. Brackley were sturdy, competent at the basics, and deserved to edge it. Our new team needs time to develop unity, and we can't read too much into what works and what doesn't this early on, so analysis remains guarded. Of note, I thought the centre halves O'Donnell and Williams were strong aerially.
Undoubtedly the worst performance came from the pitch. Chronically neglected, and worsened by the heavy rain, it meant simple short passes bobbled towards their targets. We've known this to be an issue for several seasons, but surely for the start of the season at least the pitch ought to have been nurtured to ensure a minimum standard? A respectable surface allows quicker, more dynamic, entertaining play (if the players have the potential to provide this!). Our rutted mess leads to caution, error and affects the spectacle. Money is famously tight, but lack of investment in this fundamental will ultimately have a knock on effect on gates. Many non-league teams several tiers below ourselves will have surfaces much more akin to well-tended lawns, whereas fresh from the Conference, our uneven patch would disgrace many local parks.
More positively, the fantastic work of the volunteers has had a dramatic effect on smartening the ground, with the Holker St End particularly impressive in blue. Well done to all concerned.
