Re: New Manager
I wouldn't be against Henney coming in but at this stage would prefer someone with a few more contacts, unless we are going to employ a scout as well

This. I'm not expecting us to walk anything, and budget isn't everything - but we shouldn't be dicing with the relegation places.Kieran wrote:Does anyone really beieve our budget is that bad for this league? If so, get a bloody grip of yourselves. It's not the highest in the league, but it's far from the lowest.

Re: New Manager
Just wondering when you thought that was, as this has been going on for nearly a year. It's hardly moaning at the first sign is it?45YEARS+ wrote:, a set of fans who criticise at the first signs of the club struggling .
Moaning when we were in a relegation dogfight last year and gave up with out a fight? Yep.
Moaning when we actually got relegated and the manager wasn't sacked? Yep.
Moaning when we became a loanee revolving door. Yep.
Moaning when the manager went on radio offering his address to anyone who wanted to come for a fight? Yep.
Moaning when we drop again into a relegation place in a lower league. Yep.
When was it exactly, this 'first sign of the club struggling'?

Re: New Manager
It concerns me that Brian Keen is speaking so positively of Alex Meechan, and I hope he's just saying the right things and we aren't seriously considering appointing him. To do so would be disastrous and send all the wrong messages out, not least because Meechan has already been a big part of whats gone wrong this season.

If he gets the job I will not be going and I can not see him bringing people back if he gets the job

Re: New Manager
Difficult one this. I know just what you mean and I know many will sympathise with that view. However we don't don't how much he influenced DB, or was it the other way round? Perhaps he should be given a chance to show what he can do with the current squad.capman wrote:If he gets the job I will not be going and I can not see him bringing people back if he gets the job
I agree though that at the moment BK is giving the impression that it's Meechan's job if he wants it, but again we don't know who else has applied or if the BOD are going to advertise the post properly or make any approaches to others.
I would hope that all those who make any sort of a short list which may be drawn up would be given an equal chance at the interview stage, but like it or not Meechan does have an advantage as the caretaker manager.
It would be useful to get some sort of statement from the club about the process that's now going to take place to find our next manager.

Re: New Manager
The suggestions in this thread seem to fall into two camps:
CAN DO BETTER
Andy Preece
Karl Marginson
Garry Flitcroft
Andy Legg
Jim Harvey
EX-PLAYERS WITH NO EXPERIENCE
Matt Henney
Paul Jones
Robin Hulbert
Neil Doherty
Gavin Skelton
Anyone from the first group would be a coup, for a club heading for the foot of the table. Airbus are on their way into Champions League money territory. FC United will make it to the Football League, once their new stadium build is out of the way.
I'd expect someone from the latter group, as they'd be cheaper than Bayliss was and would, if nothing else, cheer up the fans, in the immediate term. Whether or not they'd have any success is debatable.
