Despite the result my son and his mate (11 and 13 year old) left the ground delirious with excitement. Why? They’d tried to get some player autographs at half-time but the setup at the ground means it’s not easy to get close to the players’ tunnel. They decided to have another go at full-time. To cut the story short they’d spoken to Darren Edmondson who said that he’d get the whole team to sign their replica shirts. He took the shirts away and ten minutes later Alex Meechan emerged with two replica shirts replete with autographs of the full team on both. To say the boys were delighted is an understatement. They’ve vowed never to have those shirts washed so be careful not to stand too close to them if you see them on the terraces in future.
It was a poor result and DE and AM knew they would get a lot of stick as a consequence. They still took the time and effort to make the day special for two young fans. I thanked both DE and AM in person and I want to say thank you to them on this forum. It’s not always the results that make you winners.

First goal has to be a goalkeepers error, the second goal was class, really good finish.
If that footage was a true reflection of the game, we could have been beat by double the end scoreline.....not good watching!

If we get promoted it won't matter
If we lose in the play off final a cup/trophy run would have been handy to paper any cracks

It does matter. It always matters. During the recent seasons of pretty poor fayre in the league matches it has been the FA Cup and Trophy that has kept us a float and has kept us in the collective mind of the floating supporters. I think it is an absolute disgrace that both these competitions have seen us field weakened sides. Very, very poor decisions being made.

gloucester drew with bath (0-0) so will have to wait till tuesday to see if we are playing them on the 13th!
yes yesterday was bad but i still believe we are better going out at this stage then playing a few more rounds then going out, because if we didn`t get to the final aii we would have achieved is a backlog of fixtures and then we might end up not getting into the play-offs/automatic promotion|

we have money at the moment so getting beat doesn't matter - what a load of [SwearFilter]. people aren't over reacting, we should go out to win every game IMO whatever competition it is in and if we are just concentrating on the league it is a poor tactic IMO. Yes we are top now but let's face it there's a while to go yet and promotion is not guaranteed, it may just come back to bite us on the arse.

Totally agree, we SHOULD be going out to try and win every game.

Apart from three or four games we have been average. We seem to just crawl over the line and get results. It's great being top but we are rarely convincing. I think we are a couple of players short of the finished article. The 2008 team that surged up the league was better than the team we have now.

I was being sarcastic TicTac if this post is in reply to mine.

I'm sure the team I saw beat Stalybridge at Burton is better than the current side. For a start at least 3 off the top of my head - McNulty, Bond and Walker - went on to play in the Football League. The only one with any chance of doing that in this team is Burns. I think the Conference North is pretty sub-standard this season judging by quite a few results in the FA Cup and FA Trophy against lower level teams and I think any team, including us, which gets promoted will have to spend a lot of money to stay up next season.
