Barrow v Wrexham match thread
Re: Barrow v Wrexham match thread
It is a bit sobering to see that we have not managed two consecutive wins since the end of November. Perhaps we can change the pattern by winning our next 3 away games. I think there tends to be less pressure away from home and opponents are more attack minded

Re: Barrow v Wrexham match thread
Despite some ill feeling about hoof ball and not winning..one thing I am pleased with is the mentality and attitude of not giving in!
The effort and closing down by most of the lads has been great to see.. passion and a desire is what we have all been asking for!
A point earned is better than no points at all and that last gasp header by mous, could be a defining goal... we wait with baited breath!!

Agree totally John Bucks and also Boyliegladbach with your posts . . .
I felt ashamed to call myself a Barrow fan last night. We clearly have some sick minds within our ranks. It is one thing to criticise Rutherford as a player, as we all know how frustrating he was with his inconsistency, even though some of that criticism over the years has taken the form of strangely unbalanced bile.
However, it takes a qualitative leap of breath-taking proportions to migrate from criticism to the actual booing from a sizeable section of the crowd that we witnessed last night. I mean, booing? What's that all about? This was a player who never ever gave less than 100% for our club and whose attitude towards the club always struck me as exemplary. And, despite his frustrating inconsistencies, he will be enshrined forever as our MOTM in our Trophy win of 2010. Fact! I can hear now that some would respond "that's all he ever did . . ." Wrong again! His best spell was the latter part of the 2010-11 season when he did more than any other player to save us from relegation.
To the boo-ers I would ask: What will you go down in the history of Barrow AFC for? Will you ever be in our history books for winning an FA Trophy final?
Good on yer, Ruthers, yes you drove us mad at times with your turning back and inside but for all that you were a truly top lad and will always be remembered well by some of us! I repeat . . . booing??? . . . we have some sick minds amongst us at Holker Street.

I think it's a little strong to say the boo-ers have "sick minds". If that's the case then the most of the popular side are sick according to your logic.
I don't agree with it, but it seems to be more common now a days.

Good post, pjdaly.
Anyone who doubts Paul Rutherford's ability should watch the highlights of the Trophy final and concentrate on watching him - he covered every inch of the turf and played a big part in the build-up to both goals.
Yes, he could be inconsistent at times; what player isn't? As Ray Wilkie said, you see a player doing something brilliant in a game and wonder why he can't do it every week. Then you realise that if they could, they wouldnt be playing at this level.

I think sizeable is a bit of an overstatement but I agree it was baffling.
He showed his class by applauding the Popular Side at the end and that was reciprocated
As a player he would frustrate the life out of you, but was much better defensively especially than given credit for, never hid and had the odd purple patch of form.

Bit harsh the booing, decent bloke and didn't deserve it but in football its surely expected (banter) people like cook who imo stabbed us in the back a little deserve a bit of stick..
at the end of the day, we want hs to be a hostile place for teams to come to and if it means a bit of stick or winding up, nowt personal against any of em then happy days..
Jennings last night got a fair bit and it was obvious we were getting to him..

Re: Barrow v Wrexham match thread
I cant believe people are getting so touchy about it. I dont particularly care about Rutherford getting booed I am more bothered about the current batch of players getting us a result. Sometimes the crowd getting players riled up works in our favour (and obviously backfires from time to time to). So yeah...I am so not arsed about Ruthers getting booed.
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.
If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

Never needed to reply on here before, but regarding Ruthers I have allways supported him from the pop-side,even throughout his inconsistent times.I like his keep going attitude regardless of wether he is good bad or bloody awful. But I must say prior to his goal he went down under a tackle on the halfway line and screamed as if his balls had been slammed between two house bricks.Needless to say after called him a cheating little [SwearFilter],he stuck the ball past super-keep.Such is life.Loveya Ruthers.

Most people on the popular side have sick minds. Some would say all BAFC supporters have to be a little mentally unbalanced to do what we do.

I for one thought it was wrong to boo Ruthers but it didn`t stop him and the rest of his team mates coming right over to where we stood gloating and laughing at us and rutherford was taking the [SwearFilter] as well so he`s not that innocent is he? two wrongs don`t make a right!

Re: Barrow v Wrexham match thread
I don't get giving former players a rough ride; most will move on in time and some might turn up with other clubs; it doesn't make them 'bad' people.
There was a player for Wrexham the other night who tried to maim one of our players a while back but that was okay, the abuse was for a former Holker Street favourite with sublime skill who always gave 100% for the club.
If Forum posters met Ruthers on holiday in a bar somewhere would you spit in his face or have a drink and talk about the good old days? Come on people, we're Barrovians dammit!

Re: Barrow v Wrexham match thread
I heard one or two boos for Rutherford, nothing like the sort of sustained abuse that readers of this forum would think he'd been on the end of.
I personally wouldn't boo him - tried his best for us etc.
