Re: Shaw lane away
Not confident we can beat anybody at the moment. We look toothless. I wouldn’t put any money on us beating Shaw Lane.
Re: Shaw lane away
Yes it is - s/he means we played at Barnsley in the 2nd round after beating Alfreton. Though the match I was thinking of was the League match at Holker Street later that season, when a real nasty crew turned up, some with knives. The Tomahawk Kid wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2017 2:38 pmWhat the f**k have Alfreton got to do with Barnsley? Shaw Lane are based there. We have had trouble with Barnsley in the past. Your comment isn't relevant to this thread.

Nothing per se, except to place the Barnsley FA Cup match in context. It would appear that there was also trouble at that game, though I wasn't there. The Tomahawk Kid wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2017 3:14 pmExactly! That was my point! What had Alfreton to do wih it?
The home game with Barnsley was the first time I had seen any trouble at Holker Street. It was a disease that was quickly transmitted to Barrow supporters, with a nadir the following season when Workington supporters were attacked with bricks.

There was trouble at Oakwell , I went and was 16 but because someone did agree with the blue scarf i wore about 20 gave me a kicking when I went to the wrong Hadwins coach and the driver would not let me on in fear of it being damaged.xerxes wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2017 8:37 amNothing per se, except to place the Barnsley FA Cup match in context. Luckily some people stopped them after I was on the ground.
Nothing more than intolerant thugs.

I remember the Workington game. I was only a kid at time. Me and my pals were walking up Holker Street before the game and were confronted by 4/5 Marras who seemed intent on ultra violence. A group of Barrow Boot Boys came to our rescue and gave those cads the severe thrashing they deserved!
Later, in the Holker End, I witnessed Holker Enders bombarding Reds fans with house bricks...
It makes the current 'hand bags at dawn' which sometimes occurs at the segregation fence, quite trivial, in comparison.

I remember getting on the Hadwins coach after the game at Barnsley. A rather portly member of the local constabulary said to one young Barrow supporter, in a broad Yorkshire accent, ""As tha' bin drinkin' lad?"
The slightly worse for wear reply - "No tha' 'asn't. Tha's only seventeen".
He was allowed back on the coach!
