Re: Barrow v Wrexham match thread

I couldn't understand why Pearson was allowed to get treatment on the pitch when his mobility hadn't been affected. I thought that players were supposed to leave the pitch for treatment whenever possible. Wasn't having to leave the pitch brought in to cut down on players feigning injury in order to slow the game down? When Pearson went down again after we were awarded a free-kick towards the end of the match he did it to hold things up so a substitute who wasn't ready to come on had time to get ready. The ref should've made him leave the pitch and allowed the game to continue until the next time the ball went out of play before allowing the sub on. Gamesmanship that the ref was too weak to deal with.

Thought it was a penalty yesterday and highlights confirm it should have been given. Defenders arm is away from his body and
deliberately moves to block it.Ref not as good as dear Ken Seward on a bad day. Makoma not bad on the ball but like Harry P
doesn't work hard enough when not in possession. Need to be able to get up and down the pitch when you play midfield. They
don't get involved enough. Pity Walters was injured at least he looks like he wants it.

Dont know why they bother with this fair play handshake before the game only to start grabbing players at set pieces and restricting movement. As for reports of gouging- I guess the replays will reveal the extent of this serious claim against one of our players.

Very saddened to read about this group of idiots doing their best to give the club fans and town a bad name. The worry is that it will come on top for innocent fans one day caught up in their nonsense.

Thought it was an enjoyable game to watch, not in terms of football played as there wasn't any but it was a proper game of football.

We lack quality in the middle. Gomis and makoma work hard and are strong but we need someone who can pass the ball in there and manage the game.

We do lack creativity. Harrison had some lovely touches but he needs a work horse with him. Holt is too slow and clearly over weight he didn't contribute much.

Moussa and dunne were solid but we aren't gonna play out much.

I'd be tempted to go 3-5-2 and get a ball player in midfield.

Stone wall handball but not surprised it wasn't given as the ref couldn't make a proper decision.

The off field stuff is a disgrace. I'm sick of tired of if now. We are getting a reputation our proper fans don't deserve. The club needs to be strong with these idiots.

As far as I recall Pearson went down after an aerial challenge with Yussef. If Adi managed to gouge his eyes while jumping to try and head the ball he should be making kung function movies because he must be better than Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan combined!

Thought it was a pen sat in the stand. Very poor by the officials especially the liner who was opposite and would have had a good view.

Great footage. No doubt in my mind now that it was a pen. It was clear at the time but then a couple day passes and you doubt yourself but seeing that is unbelievable.. Players get punished for mistakes on the pitch, then so should referees. I hope the FA see this footage.

The positives from the game are that we restricted Wrexham to very little (although I think they have been the poorest of all the top 5 sides we've seen at Holker Street) and I've no doubt that our team are moving in the right direction.

Another well balanced post match review from Josh the Bluebird

First boxing day game I've missed in years so can't comment on the game. As for the kids with the flag etc, isn't good is it in poor taste they need to know what is acceptable banter.
The incident is on Wrexham’s highlights after 9 minutes
Accidental, no one complains at the time. There manager should apologise

The blatant penalty was not on the Wrexham highlights.

Just watched the Wrexham highlights and the interview with their Manager and Carrington. Don't see anything deliberate from Yussuf in the way that their manager was describing? These teams come here expecting to win and when they don't, they don't offer an ounce of credit for our performance. The truth is, goal aside i don't recall any significant saves that Dixon had to make and we totally nullified any attacking threat to a few half chances that we dealt with comfortably. At the other end we broke several times and if we had that extra bit of quality with the final ball and the decision making they would have been going home without a point. We certainly finished the game the stronger side.

Clearly just an attempt by their manager to create a bit of tension ahead of the reverse fixture, hoping one of our less disciplined players will take the bait. Anyone watching that clip back can see that Yussuf goes for the ball (and gets it), but his flailing arm catches Pearson. As the commentary said, he couldn't make his mind up over whether to feign a leg injury or an eye injury...

The chance where Makoma pulled it back to Jones wasn't as bad as I thought at the time - if that was a right-footed player, they would have hit it first time, but Jones let it run across him. Obviously there was the penalty shout, Diarra's header that was cleared off the line, and one of Makoma's deflected efforts wasn't too far away. We were definitely the better side. Would take a draw on Monday though.
