We overplayed it and when we did start putting decent balls into the box we cant get on the end of it. Set pieces - please change the corner routine because I don’t think we ever win anything in the air from corners.

Most frustrating game of the season. Scunthorpe came with spoiling tactics and got the point. We won’t have a game with as much ball possession again for the rest of the season (86% second half. Forget the first half we were terrible)
If you are correct, and I suspect you are, that attendance is shocking and goes against what the club envisaged we would get once the crowds returned after covid.
Those sort of attendance figures will see us back in national league sooner rather than later.

When we had them pinned in the box I don't know why Ollie Banks didn't try having a shot instead of passing wide every time might have triggered something

Getting it forward means playing positive attacking quick passes forward and moving with pace. Turning and moving with the ball- exactly what Josh Kay did when he came on. He at least drives forward with the ball and what a difference when he came on.
Spot on, Jonty. The first half I was crying out for someone to run at defenders. Josh Kay certainly did that. I can't understand what made us so cagey first half, it was like some of last season's stuff under Dunn. I had a tension headache by half time!

As for Zanzala - it is almost a case of "What have Carlisle ever done for us". We have M Jones and Devitt almost permanently on the sick for a year and a half and now Zanzala who seems to be half asleep most of the time. I wouldn't even say Farman is an improvement on Dixon.

Now we know why Carlisle released some of them !

They released one of them

Devitt turned down a new deal to join Blackpool
Farman and Zanzala turned down new deals to join us

Only Mike Jones wasn’t offered a new deal

Farman is fine; granted he’s not an improvement on Dixon no but that was big gloves to fill, we were always unlikely to pick up a better keeper than Dixon.

Still think Zanzala will be ok playing off another striker, he’s not that battering ram/main focal point of the attack type striker that at the moment he is having to be.

Devitt has been the biggest disappointment so far really, we have seen flashes of his talent but that’s all it’s been, even when he’s been fit he was rarely in the game.

Jones was probably our best player last season before his injury.

Well he let you down Jim.

First half was terrible but we grew into the second 45 and we were probably unlucky in the end not to score a second. Having said that, we were poor, if a team set up to defend we have no idea how to play against them…pass back, pass across the pitch, keep possession (passes 364-64…!) while all the time they’re lapping it up. Why the manager cannot see it’s sometimes better to throw a cross in rather than just pass pass pass…well them passing stats must tell him something. The lack of a proven goalscorer is becoming more and more of a worry.

Very poor result but in the end just happy we didn’t get beat.

BTW, we all seemed to think their keeper was well off his line for the pen, which was poor anyway but perhaps a case for a re-take.
Here's proof that the keeper was well off his line Ian.

But it wasn't a great penalty. How many times have I told them : blast it high! ;) I have seen Banks do that before, don't know why he went low to the corner (and didn't get it hard enough or wide enough anyway).

Yes, I’ve just seen this on the highlight thanks. Poor from the liner as surely that’s one of his main tasks when a penalty is being taken.
As Jim says, it was a pretty poor effort anyway.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Problem is with packed defences players often shoot if you see a gap. Onus not on Banks but our players in the box pulling the defenders around. That's how we got the equaliser.

As for the penalty it doesn't matter if it is poorly taken it should have been re-taken rubbish officiating.

Banks hit the ball straight down the middle Jim.
The goalkeeper never moved one way or the other and stopped it with his foot.

So based on a guess by someone that it looked more like 1700 than 2700 you are off on your normal doom and gloom

There will have been money from ifollow too. Watched the game on ifollow myself poor first half too slow. Second half dominated without the killer touch... on to Saturday
