We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Barrow v Ramsbottom
As far as the protest goes, I think Brian Keen's comments in tonight's paper are embarrassing, bordering on insulting and demonstrate even further just how out of touch he and the board are.
Firstly - The loyal fans on the Popular Side made it clear they don't want any of this - Utter bull shit, there was a handful of grumbles but several people also made a point of coming over to agree. Also, there is an implication in there that those involved are not loyal fans, but all we've got left are loyal fans Brian for christ sake and those involved are some of the most loyal around.
Secondly - As far as the Gainsborough incident goes, it was Dave Bayliss that dragged it back up by telling untruths in two separate radio interviews.
Finally - These people are looking to trip us up, humiliate us, stir up controversial opinions - Again, utter garbage. Do you really think anyone enjoys the situation we find ourselves in as a club? It's precisely because we don't enjoy it and are so concerned why it was felt there was a need for Saturday.
Crowds are down to 550-650 for good reasons, but that appears to be lost on the board.

No doubt we are the vocal minority who inhabit the 'cyberworld' Tony was on about at the AGM
A more sensible response would have been a bit like PJDaly's post in this thread.
No-one wants this but it was make a point or boycott the game. There are enough doing that as it is.
As for disloyal- aye O.K..

Re: Barrow v Ramsbottom
Why didn't the BOD ,stipulate that DB was not allowed to give any interviews for at least a month, after his embarrassing outburst on RC.
Agree with Kieran .... the Chairman, sorry to say, is completely out of touch with what is going on with his comment in Evening Mail and other comments that have been made about the supporters who voice their opinions that the board don't like ..........even when its the truth.
Just wish all this could be settled correctly and HONESTLY its not doing Barrow Afc any good at all

Reg, thanks for your comments in the earlier post.
Yes, it is not at all difficult to see where the intense sense of antagonism is coming from and it’s not at all difficult to understand the principles underpinning the protestors. In a way it’s an impossible situation, a no-win situation where a part of a person wants to stay away on important principles, (because of the clear belief that a fan’s integrity is being impugned and additionally because of the lack of transparency towards the fans and members) whilst the other part wants to keep going in spite of everything in order to help to keep the “club” alive (by “club” I mean that abstract intangible thing which is not the permanent ownership of any set of persons and remains long after any particular group has gone). I just hope that that “club” can somehow survive long after the regime changes longed for by many come to pass (if and when they ever do).
I have only missed a handful of games since I first pitched up at Holker Street in 1962 when my late Dad lifted me over the turnstiles at the now disappeared entrance by the traffic lights but I cannot recall any time as bitter as this. The fans are the most important part of any club and it seems clear that some heads need banging together real hard to put an end to the madness currently going on. There is certainly a part of me that could easily be tempted into stopping going but it’s true that the other part is winning out and intends to keep on going with the result that it’s impossible to feel satisfied in this situation. I kind of wish half of me could stop going in protest and the other half could continue going and paying the money to do my bit to help keep the club alive. Trouble is, people at the match would then say I’m not all there.

Re: Barrow v Ramsbottom
Couldn't agree more!! Totally new on here but not at HS. Last straw for me was the "Bayliff" incident. Cant believe the way him or the Board treats the fans. Evening Mail don't help by trotting out the party line all the time and not challenging them more. And for BK to tell the fans to calm down in the paper tonight!! What? Like the manager's dead chilled! #nothappyKieran wrote:As far as the protest goes, I think Brian Keen's comments in tonight's paper are embarrassing, bordering on insulting and demonstrate even further just how out of touch he and the board are.

Er, hang on, only a couple of weeks ago they were being accused of trying to foment trouble for the club with their survey. Now the EM is accused of being the mouthpiecebarrowfan wrote:Agreed. We seemed to get far more AFC stories than ever before which is good, but recently the EM seems to be more like the voice piece of the club rather than playing it down the middle and playing Devil's Advocate, which is what I would expect from a local paper.eveningfail wrote:Evening Mail don't help by trotting out the party line all the time and not challenging them more.
It all comes 'round again.

Criticism comes and goes. Tonite's report was very loaded towards cracking on its only a 'small section of supporters' unhappy and i dont agree thats the case. Thats the boards view and the Evening Mail is pushing it for them to try to keep them sweet IMO. It was all written up as a 'brief pre-match protest' to try not to upset the Board. Not written from a fans perspective! How many other news papers would let the football boss get away with offering a fan outside in the car park and then give the Chairman his soap box to tell them to keep quiet??? No wonder the fan wont speak to the Mail, says it all to me.

Having re-read tonight's piece I feel I may have been a bit hard on the EM. They do at least seem to have tried to get the fan's point of view. Not their fault he doesn't want to speak to them - for whatever reason!Nigel Bamford wrote:Er, hang on, only a couple of weeks ago they were being accused of trying to foment trouble for the club with their survey. I won't be doing that Mick.mickmike wilson wrote:Reg, Hope you don't mind me butting in here but IMO there's a third choice for you and the others with the same dilemma, Give a fortnightly donation to the BDF or the GM team (especially as the donation will be doubled up by a fan's superb offer) this way you have something solid to come back too while not supporting the Bod or DB directly.
Many are totally deflated by the whole sorry episode but we can support infrastructure while not supporting its (mis)management.
I'll just put the money into my early retirement fund or maybe get to the casino more often.
It's my 'fun' money, so I'll either have fun with it, or put it away so I'm not having to work until I'm 70!

It's been apparent for some while that BK has no time for certain sections of the fans, who ironically happen to be among the loyalest of loyal supporters.Kieran wrote:As far as the protest goes, I think Brian Keen's comments in tonight's paper are embarrassing, bordering on insulting and demonstrate even further just how out of touch he and the board are.

Re: Barrow v Ramsbottom
I thought the display got the point across very well, far better than not turning up. If that's what it takes each home game to make someone sit up & take notice of the uneasy feel around the place at the moment - then that must be the right/better way of doing it.
I still can't really agree with the "stay away" tactics, to me it just doesn't make sense, but each to their own.

I just get absolutely nothing from the the football and haven't for a good while.
I'm not and won't be encouraging others to follow suit.
