Big over reaction this^^^^
Lets be honest the FA Cup side selected SHOULD have been more than enough to beat Runcorn, but obviously didn't, but that's football, we could have fielded our strongest line up & still got beat on the day, or won through but suffered injuries to key players, then the forum would have been in meltdown.
Saturdays side was a strong side, granted not our best line up but still a very strong line up.
Re: Worcester Match Thread
I'd agree with Russell there, but hopefully if we do go up then Casson will be able to help finance the quality of players needed to keep us in that division and make us competitive. This isn't a great division as we've always known and Alty and Telford have found it tough since going back up.russell_anderson wrote:I'm sure the team I saw beat Stalybridge at Burton is better than the current side. For a start at least 3 off the top of my head - McNulty, Bond and Walker - went on to play in the Football League. The only one with any chance of doing that in this team is Burns. I think the Conference North is pretty sub-standard this season judging by quite a few results in the FA Cup and FA Trophy against lower level teams and I think any team, including us, which gets promoted will have to spend a lot of money to stay up next season.Steeley wrote: No chance.
Interesting debate that on which team is better, this one or the team that won promotion in 2008.
For me it would be the team back then when I think this league was much stronger.
Deasy v McMillan - Deasy
Woodyatt v Burns - Burns
McWilliam v Elderton - Elderton
Jones v Livesey - Livesey
McNulty v Grand - McNulty
Henney v Reid - Henney
Bond v Lacey - wasn't his biggest fan when he was here but Bond
Boyd v Harvey - Boyd
Brown v Pilkington - probably Pilkington edges it.....just
Walker or Walker?!
Rogan v Cook - Cook

Never in a day - Jones better than Livesey by a country mile

Re: Worcester Match Thread
Depends how you are measuring it, as a footballer Danny Livessey has undoubted quality and his past career tells you that. We haven't yet seen the best of him though and are only just starting to see glimpses of a good partnership developing between him and Grand. As a Barrow player Jones is of course a legend, and his partnership with McNulty was second to none.
Livessey is a better footballer than Jonah of that there is little doubt, but we're yet to see the sort of consistency from him in a Barrow shirt that we saw from Jonah.

Reid is better than Henney.
No way on earth is Harvey worse than Boyd was at the time.
Outside of first 11, does anyone think the rest of the squad was near our current squad, the like of cowps, sheridan, wilson. Again i would argue that they are better in positions than certain 08 players.

Re: Worcester Match Thread
For me, I would say the present squad would shade it - both have their best areas and some 'weaknesses.'
Attack (inc Wingers) - 14/15. I don't think we've seen better options up front than Walker, Cook, Wilson and Ellison for a number of seasons. I would also say we have superior wide men this season.
Central Midfielder - 07/08. Bond was fantastic - would walk straight into this team in my opinion - the one type of player who would fully balance the side we have now and the only real aspect in which the 07/08 side was better. I would say Boyd on a good day would be similar in ability to what we have now.
Defence - Pretty similar. Jones and McNulty were a superb partnership, and as Kieran has already said Grand and Livesey are developing a strong one also. Burns is an asset.

Popular side since '03.
