Barrow v Lincoln City match thread

Can only comment from watching on the TV but I thoroughly enjoyed the game even though it wasn't one for the purist who would want to see slick passing and mazy dribbling. That said, you play the hand and the conditions you are dealt and the pitch isn't exactly conducive to that style with it cutting up right from the kick off. I thought we bossed it for 75-80 mins and were not really given the credit for doing so by a very heavily Lincoln-biased BT Sport.

I would echo everyone on here who said they would struggle to pick a man of the match and it could easily have gone to anyone in white but for me Akil Wright was fantastic, he broke things up, got box to box and was a constant pest in midfield, not allowing them to settle.

To read that Lincoln fans are criticising the way we play ... they only had, or looked for the ball up to Rhead and then fed of the scraps from that. As much long ball as us! A tad hypocritical I fancy!

I also agree with the need to add some more numbers not just depth to the squad - they can't play with that kind of intensity game in game out without being able to give some lads a breather.

I heard different to you then, thought all the commentators/analysts were full of praise for us. They said we deserved to be leading/win on more than a few occasions.

MOM is probably the toughest to choose this season and it was definitely not a case of picking Livesey as a default . I would say that Harvey and Bennett would be my top 2 picks with the other 9 a close second.

Lincoln are saying that because we used the tactic much better and the bitterness is showing, Bennett was 100 times the player Rheade was last night.

They DO have a point! The football we play isn't NICE to watch but it is EFFECTIVE.

Having watched Lincoln V Ipswich The Imps can play attractive football. However, The Bluebirds nullified their style of play last night and DICTATED PLAY A team is only as good as the opposition allow them to be. We did a hatchet job on them!

Lincoln can have no complaints. If you saw them play Ipswich the other week you can see they play exactly the same type of football we do, last night they were roundly beaten at their own game.

A pre-match injury exposed a weakness in their squad at left back something Harrison exploited and that got Barrow off to an early lead. Under pressure for the 2nd goal, the Lincoln defence minus the left side stepped up for offside. That appeared to keep Bennett onside, it crept over that wonky back line for him to turn it in. In fact trying to keep the back line high undid them on both goals. Not sure the penalty we got was a penalty, would have to see that again but doubt I would have given it. Thought the player got the ball and simply muscled him off it. Very soft at best. Hannah took it well.

I read complaints that the ref was allowing us to foul Rhead and he came off with a torn shirt. Would not be surprised given the abuse Bennett was getting, his shirt could be regularly seen several feet from him as it was pulled right in front of the ref. Not the best ref but pretty consistent on the shirt pulling, otherwise we would have had a couple more penalties for Diarra losing his shirt a few times in the box.

The Lincoln change of style after they subbed Rhead didn't really work for them. They struggled to get anyone on their high balls after that change, unlike Barrow with the loss of Harrision early on. In fact the loss of this seasons most influential front men, Harrison and then Williams did nothing to dampen Barrow's attack. Lincoln where still trying but seemed to flag towards the end. Too many games caught up with Barrow, Lincoln's turn?

Everyone did well but I have to congratulate Bennett. He often lacks the good positioning of Harrison in build up play and miss controls the ball a lot. Still prone to some really poor wild shots but he really stepped up last night and lead the line very well.

Bottles being thrown- I saw exactly what happened
When Barrow scored, a small plastic water bottle was thrown from the Lincoln area into the Barrow fans area. A young Barrow lad (approx. 8yr) picked it up and tamely threw it underarm back towards the Lincoln fans- it barely managed to reach the segregation area. Cue the reaction of the stewards!

The bottle I saw thrown was from the Barrow side and it definitely wasn't thrown by an 8 year old....unless he's a future Olympic shot putt gold medallist in the making, it was hurled fifteen foot in the air and landed smack in the crowd of Lincoln supporters.

Regardless of who threw the first one, is there really any need for some idiot to throw it back? And just to top things off, some equally idiotic "fan" threw something towards the Lincoln keeper from the HSE mid second half.

Fantastic night last night.

We always seem to perform in front of the cameras and last night was no exception. A great performance to get the job done.

There was a brilliant atmosphere coming from the main stand as well. I was stood in front of the trust shop in the second half and the noise coming from the stand chanting "Barrow" after we scored was brilliant.

Let's hope for more of the same on Saturday

Sorry Dude; have to disagree with you. They DON'T play like us - well, they DIDN'T against Ipswich, anyway. They played some nice football and their winger Arnold made some dazzling runs...as did another of their players - whose name I forget. Came unstuck last night though!
