Well done to all but I'll give a special mention to Robbie Gotts who's taken a bit of stick on this forum recently . . . he was fantastic today in shutting our opponents down time after time in that second half.

The great and legendary Roy Sproson will be spinning in his grave tonight.

A wonderful second half performance with four stunning goals from Ged Garner, Emile Acquah, Kian Spence and Dom Telford (including three assists from substitute Elliot Newby) left the 700 Port Vale supported shell-shocked with mass exoduses after the third and fourth goals went in. The remainder of the 3,481 crowd went home ecstatic.

A very even goalless first half gave no indication of the treats in store, even though Barrow were steadily improving as the game went on.

Whereas Barrow had an unchanged starting line-up from the one which beat Port Vale 3-2 in the Carabao Cup a week last Tuesday, only Debrah and Paton remained from Vale’s young starting line up that day. However, the nine supposedly better replacements fared far worse against our strike force today!

Joint third with Walsall after three games, that second half gave renewed hope that we can again fight for the play-offs or promotion. The worries about lack of goals evaporated with this afternoon’s performance, all from fast flowing attacks rather than set pieces, followed by shots with clinical accuracy.

Newby’s entry took place 20 minutes earlier than that in the cup due to a 52nd minute enforced replacement for the injured Connor Mahoney. Within two minutes he had provided the assist for Garner’s opener.

Back to the first half. Although largely a lacklustre affair and to be totally eclipsed by the second, Farman did well to tip a 21st minute Garrity header over the bar following a Curtis corner.

Six minutes later, a Garner shot was blocked by defenders following a Feely throw into the area.

On the half-hour Farman tipped a long-range cross from the right over the bar for a corner.

Ten minutes later, Ripley easily saved a Jackson shot from outside the area.

Barrow’s best chance of the half came in the 42nd minute. Following a Gotts corner played short to Jackson, our No.30 launched the ball into the area, Ripley saving Feely’s close-range header.

The goalless half-time scoreline exactly reflected the possession and chances but Barrow’s gradual ascendancy would be turbo-charged in the second period.

Four minutes in, Connor Mahoney went down injured. Play was stopped awaiting a Vale free kick at the other end for a foul on John. Newby came on, the free kick was cleared, and a superb run by Newby seconds later gave Garner to fire from the right edge of the area. He blasted the ball into the far corner for 1-0 in the 54th minute.

The Barrow fans were galvanised by the stunning goal into much louder singing, now drowning out the previously loud Port Vale fans, which in turn spurred the players on to produce more magic moments.

In the meantime, Garrity had a chance to equalise in the 57th minute but to his embarrassment he drilled wide past the left post from close-range on a 1-to-1 with Farman.

A minute later, Vale replaced Chislett, Curtis and Paton with Byers, Baker-Boaitey and Stockley.

In the 65th minute, we were also forced into a change as the injured Feely was replaced by Eccleston- who was also to provide an assist for the third goal. At the same time, Acquah replaced Garner, which would turn out to be another inspired substitution 12 minutes later.

New-boy Byers was then booked for a foul on Kouyate who was becoming too hot to handle. Dipepa then came on for John but the four Port Vale changes seemed to only increase Barrow’s dominance.

Barrow won three corners, but again it would be a rapid attack down the right by Newby which led to Acquah unleashing a superb shot into the top corner in the 77th minute. Vale looked very exposed down that right side and we had capitalised twice.

Four minutes later, Spence- awarded man of the match- made it three, this item Eccleston providing the assist. A superb cross from our No.2 gave our No.8 a shot from the centre of the box into the left corner. 3-0 and many of the Port Vale fans had seen enough.

In the 87th minute, Telford and Foley came on for Kouyate and Spence. A fourth different goal scorer, Dom Telford, would soon make it four.

Nine minutes of added time were announced for three injuries, as Vale replaced the injured Hart with Plant after the two earlier Barrow casualties.

However, we continued pressing and winning the ball back with great challenges and determination.

When Port Vale did get through, Farman was on top form, punching out a point-blank header from Heneghan following a 92nd minute Baker-Boaitey corner.

In the 95th minute, our 4th goal, Newby again supplying the assist for Telford to fire home from the centre of the box following good passing moves.

Vale’s miserable afternoon was completed as Croasdale was booked for a bad challenge on Campbell in the 97th minute.

There was a lengthy ovation for the Barrow players and management from the fans after a second half with a magnificent team performance which will live long in the memory.

The game on a whole was excellent. Our second half performance was IMO contained some of the best football we have played for a very long time. Under Wild going 1.0 up we would have sat back and defended our lead. Not this Clemece led side. We went for the jugular and buried them with some scintillating football. Make no mistake Port Vale are a decent side but they couldn't live with us in the second half. Every goal was finished superbly.

The goals, aquas was a great strike. Farman made some critical saves, but for me, Campbell as the play maker in midfield, was motm, hope we can tie him down to a longer contract.

Against a midfield of similar stature Campbell, Spence and Gotts are unbelievable, really hope we get the first two tied down to new contracts at some point soon
