With a certain John Rooney pulling the strings and scoring goals! We've no one of that calibre!

Awful match between 2 poor teams but maybe that is because all the teams in this league are poor. However, based on today, I would be surprised to see either team finish in the top 10. As far as I could see, we have 2 big central defenders who will win almost everything in the air and give fouls away by the dozen! Otherwise we had nothing. Not even a modicum of creativity in midfield and a non-existent attack. I don't know where all this pace was that the manager said he had brought in because only Walker on the right looked to have any for the first quarter of an hour or so.
However, I guess all the posters who come on here and think Hartlepool are going to be near the top must be blinded by the publicity that they have spent a lot of money. If they have, most of it has been wasted because they created not much more than we did other than 1 very good snap shot for the first goal by a player who did absolutely nothing else in the match. The second goal should have been saved comfortably by Winterbottom who wasn't convincing when coming for any crosses. In fact, the one player from Hartlepool who did look decent was the goalkeeper who handled very securely. Only the first match but a huge improvement is needed over that performance.

Totally agree with this. Two woeful sides neither of which could string 3 passes together because neither side had players capable of it.
I've seen enough of MJ Williams now. He's got to grow up or move on. Plays like a petulant child game after game. Shouldn't be the captain or automatic choice.
What exactly have that squad of players been practicing all pre-season? Set pieces were, as usual, abysmal, communication minimal, team cohesion non-existent.
Massive improvement required in the basics.

The pools fans certainly know how to back thier team .
All four sides of the ground full and a great atmosphere.
As for us we were snappy in the tackle but constantly hoofing it forward for big guys to head on to nobody in particular got boring very quickly. Someone needed to get the ball down and play but it never happened .
We need to be better than that because there are some decent teams in this league as we found out today.

Murray said in his post-match interview that he was disappointed his big players didn't turn up today.
I would ask him why he didn't start with two of his big signings (Reid and Marriott) instead of two players who showed nothing for Barrow throughout the whole of last season (Cameron and Smith)?

Supposed to be a clean slate I thought but Barrow fans catastrophising after one game - nothing changes.
We threw our league status away last season and this season I’m just going to go when I can and I’m not even bothered about the results anymore. It’s only a game

Some people need to chill out a bit. One of the favourites to win the league on their own patch first game and we matched them and didn’t look second best.
Stop bitching after the first game. Let’s see after 12.
Lot of you were saying mid table predictions anyways so wind yer necks in. Some of you have no idea what a shite barra side looks like.

In the same way that teams competed with us in EFL2 when we had a highly rated young Chelsea player on loan (Sam McClelland, now playing for Larne in the Northern Irish League)! He's already been on loan at 2 other teams lower than National League and may well be a very good player in a few years but is hardly a world beater yet and may never be so! We've signed a few young players who had been released by Premier clubs over the last years plus a few on loan as well and not many of them have turned out to be much good. Popov, who played for Hartlepool today and did nothing, was one. Wakeling now at Solihull was another, a supposed 'world beater' from Man Utd whose name I've forgotten was another. So one youngster on loan from a Premier team is far from unusual in the lower leagues and certainly doesn't make a team invincible.
