GOALKEEPER Aaran Taylor and midfielder Alex-Ray Harvey will be offered new one-year deals by Barrow AFC.
After falling out of contract following the Bluebirds’ Conference North title-winning campaign, the duo are in line to be part of the club’s Vanarama National League squad next season.
But midfield trio Karl Ledsham, Sam Sheridan and Johnny Gorman, plus right-back Andy Burns, have been released.
Barrow boss Darren Edmondson is yet to hold talks with other contract hopefuls – including Niall Cowperthwaite.

New midfield was always the priority, considering we won the league it's frightening how much our midfield got dominated in some games this season just gone.

Why is it strange. Good keeper. Young lad.
We will no doubt get a new number one and Taylor is adequate back up.

Agreed, but I do hope we do sign a No1 keeper as IMO Taylor is not yet quite good enough to be first choice keeper.

I think we may come to regret losing Burns and Sheridan. Otherwise no real surprises. Taylor deserves his chance.

Aaron Taylor hasn't done much wrong since he got his chance, apart from maybe the second Lowestoft goal. He has been fortunate to play behind such a solid defence, and to be fair to him that clouds judgement somewhat, but he always looks a bit shaky to me on the odd occasions he has been called upon to do something other than sweep up. I think we need the very best keeper we can get if we want to compete next season, a modern equivalent of Steve Farrelly (for my money the best keeper we've had in the last 30 years). Personally, I don't think A.T. is anywhere near that, but nothing would please me more if he proved me wrong.

Whoever we have between the posts next season, I do believe that we should have a back-up 'keeper on the bench. The step up to a higher level is going to see us pitted against quicker, sharper forwards, and an outfield player placed in goal in the event of an injury or dismissal is quite likely to be punished.
Unless we've got a modern day equivalent of Bob Knox in the squad; older supporters will well remember his exploits in goal!

I wonder if Cowps is any good in the nets...?

I remember Flynn's exploits in goal the last time we needed a sub keeper

Which is exactly what is needed to compete in the Conference Premier.

Yeah and that's with the midfield general Paddy Lacey!
Shez is a loss.
