In today's paper, wants a new winger.
He Says Got Pilks and Haworth, Newby is young etc, Symington more of a full back but can go on wing. So wants a new one.
No mention of van den broek in his interview.
Is he still a barrow player?

Just read that Al and I thought exactly the same. Strange to mention young Elliot Newby who has hardly played but omit VDB from the piece who has managed more than a handful of games.

Agree we need another winger . But Newby should get a run of games . I though Pilks would come fast out the blocks this season , never beats a man , but saying that he provides crosses for Cooks goal's so guess he is doing the job!

Need to be strengthening centre mid before looking at new wingers.

Agreed. Quality midfielder first before anything else.I thought Mellor was that man with his league experience, but he looks ordinary.

Not a bad idea considering how much Pilks gets injured, would prefer to see Newby at least given a chance to prove himself first though

I can't understand the clamber to get Elliot Newby into the starting eleven. If he was not local would people be so keen to see him start.
The bottom line is, at present he is not big enough or strong enough to compete for 90 minutes in the national league, exposing him now could set him back years if he got bullied. What he needs is game time at a lower level in the pyramid (either National North or even with 'Wukkie' in the Glue league) to build up his experiences gradually. The same can be said for his brother & Brad Carroll.
These three locals could well be the future of Barrow, but not at the minute, what Edmo needs now is players who are battle hardened in the National league level or above (Men not Boys).

Welling number 20 was obviously motm - his job was made easier by Welling going to 3 at the back with him sat just in front picking up passes from the other 4 midfielders that worked hard to get the ball.
And you're right, he was small in stature but, like Newby, looked to play positively and play/pass forward as often as possible. All this talk on here about not being big enough is an attitude entrenched in the 1970s. Have a listen to the comments made on tv about Santi Corzola (apologies for spelling) dominating in the prem at the w/e.

Agreed, look at Raheem Sterling, difficult to compare yes but hes a small person for the premier league.
Im sure pre season Edmo was praising the Newbys as they are one of the fittest players in the squad, does that not make them 'strong enough'?

Was asked to prove himself for a contract over pre season. Proved that he could perform within the squad (actually scored against the squad he is in now) only to be told he isnt big enough in stature after a few substitute appearances.
Typical Edmo though. Says he isnt strong enough for the game then puts him on the bench ahead of VDB who is "big and strong" enough.
There is clearly some talent there , weve seen it and without a good run of games in the side we won't ever know what he is like at this level. 30 second- 10 minute appearances every now and again are no good.
