Mansfield Town fan here (living in Sweden by the way). Below the Barrow fans will find a preview on tomorrow's game, which will be the first FL game between the sides for over half a century, although the sides clashed in Blue Square Premier not so long ago.

For the first time in little more than half a century, Barrow AFC will face Mansfield Town in a Football League fixture, although the sides have clashed since then.

Last time the sides clashed in the League, it was in the third division a couple of weeks before the 1960’s came to an end. On December 13, 1969, Barrow travelled to Mansfield and lost to a 4-2 scoreline, and incidentally enough, the same scoreline came about a couple of months earlier in the third Division, where Barrow had finished a creditable eighth in 1967-68. That season also marked Barrow’s so far latest victory at Mansfield to a 2-1 scoreline on September 16, 1967.

And if previous games between the sides are something to go by, there should be a few goals on Tuesday night.
The sides also clashed in the Conference National for five seasons running from 2008-09 onwards, but Barrow’s two latest visits to north Nottinghamshire ended in heavy defeats, 7-0 in March 2012 and 8-1 the following year. The latter game was also the first time since November 30, 1963, Barrow had conceded eight goals in a FL and Conference fixture (details might be wrong here). On November 30, 1963, Barrow lost at Aldershot in Division Four to an 8-2 scoreline.

But over the years dating back to the 1930’s, Barrow had also won convincingly at Field Mill, now One Call Stadium. On two occasions, Barrow did record 5-0 victories. The first one as far back as in November 1933, the second one on the opening day of the 1954-55 old Division 3 (N) campaign.

When Barrow gained promotion to the third tier in 1967, they managed the unusual feat to score in EVERY away game then, and then went on to score in their first four fixtures on the road in the third division. The third of those games was played at Mansfield.

The Stags v Barrow fixture at Field Mill in the 2010-11 was postponed twice before being played on April 12, 2011, in front of the lowest post-WW II Field Mill league crowd, a paltry 1253 (71Barrow fans, details checked).

I remember that Aldershot result well! I was sat watching the old grainy black-and-white TV on Grandstand (so long ago that it even pre-dates the legendary rascal Frank Bough as host presenter) when the Classifieds scrolled onto Division 4 and the 8-2 scoreline was delivered by Len Martin. As a kid, I could not believe what I was seeing. I didn't think it was possible that Barrow could ever concede eight goals. It was more of a shock to the system than the Daleks who made their debut around the same time. When I saw 8-2 come up on the screen I reckon I gave a more blood-curdling cry than Barbara (a remark that only the very old could hope to understand).
