Seems like the reason Joel Dixon has not signed a new contract with Barrow is the fact that he appears to be joining Bolton.

Don’t think any out of contract players will have been offered anything yet, as club did not know what league they would be playing in until last Tuesday
Will be a few interesting weeks with players and management

According to Adam there is a clause written into Evatt's contract that he can't approach any Barrow player for two years.

Absolute howler if we have let Dixon go due to a contract running out in fact ill go one further shambolic. Key player , key asset but we are professionally run eh lads…. You cant force lads to sign contract extensions..

It wouldn't surprise me if Joel's known for 12 months where he's going at the end of this season

Its basic football business you keep your best players under contract you don't let them go for free , you dont let an outstanding goalkeeper run a contract out when it hits 2 years add another year the lads 28 not 38. Defending the indefensible.

Well we've had 200 games out of him and he's been through times with us when many of this forums members didn't think he was that good. However he has improved quite a bit and has been prominent in a side needing his skills this season. Importantly under Evatt he had finally eradicated those kamikaze runs out of his box that tended to so terrify the back line and supporters alike.

If he is Bolton bound then so be it. I would wish him well. Especially if that were in the higher division. But I did detect something of a hesitation before he signed up for this season. So it wouldn't really surprise me.

There are a fair few keepers out there and the differences between them tend to be much more marginal than with outfield players at this level. Sure we'd find a decent one. Its one position that over the years we've always been able to fill reasonably competently.

Joel Dixon will not be the first or last player to run down a contract it's the way it goes the lad owes us nothing good luck if he goes.

What the [SwearFilter]? The best players at this level leave for free all the time. Even some of the best players in the world leave for free if the club don't sell them beforehand.

No blame attached to Dixon, who clearly wants to play higher, and no blame to the club - what would you rather they had done? Kept him in the reserves for a season? Sell him for peanuts last summer? That'd be cutting our nose off to spite our face.
