McLelland has been great since being thrown in early on against Bradford when Ray got injured. Strong, composed and looks like he'll play at a high level before too long. He never panics and never seems to be stretching for headers or tackles, makes it look easy to nick the ball without diving in or giving fouls away. I think having Canavan alongside him helps, but likewise Canavan himself seems to have pushed on with a reliable defender next to him.

Now a chance for George Ray to come back in.

I agree that he has been excellent since playing at centre back. Don’t forget he played at right back at Stockport in the opening game of the season, and did well.
Canavan is a much better player this season. Looks to have shed pounds, and is quicker and fitter. Heads the ball a mile.

Played tonight for the U-21s against Scotland

Watched yesterdays reverse game on BBC Sport . Was a very lucky lad in the dying minutes of the game. After an Irish corner was cleared away upfield he ran behind a scottish striker and deliberately clipped his ankles before running past him with an 'innocent' look. Luckily the ref was ahead of them both and saw nothing but once he stopped the game and returned to the Scot who was writhing on the ground he was given a verbal bashing by him.If it wasn't virtually the last kick of the game there would probably have been retributions.The game finished 1-1. Sorry can't copy a link but if you google Scotland u-21 it will come up.
