Released/Retained

Post by WillBAFC » Mon Apr 29, 2024 9:15 pm

Heard on the radio today that we’re going to announce our released/retained list soon. Who would be on yours? For me, the first off the list have to be:

Released:

• Warren
• Proctor
• White (great servant, but in need of something else)
• Lillis (aware he’s a player coach but definitely need a younger upgrade)
• Duffus

Agree with all above, other's to go Chester, Feeley and probably players to be offered new contracts will be Ray, Foley, Tiensia and Whitfield, rumours are that Whitfield won't be staying, the B team players all have 1 season options but don't know the plans for the B team next season.

agree with all those

i know they are contracted but i would try get rid of Worrall and Telford. id keep Feely if he was on a fairly low wage as hes a half decent squad player. id be on the lookout for at least 1 proper wing back and id make a mobile striker a top priority

For me, our core team should be consisting of:

Farman, Canavan, Ray, Campbell, Spence, Gotts, Whitfield, Acquah, and Tiensia.

I’d definitely release Proctor, Warren, Duffus, and White. I could see why we’d release Chester too, though would depend on getting someone in (and not sure it’ll be a priority position). It’d be great to see Lillis move into coaching full-time.

I think the case could be made for moving on Telford.

I can see that Ben Whitfield might move on, but it would be a real loss if he did as he has been one of our best players over the last 2 seasons and his goals have been crucial. I like his attitude too. However, as has been said in previous threads, he needs to play in his best position.
Elliott Newby is also one I would retain, but don’t play him as a defensive wing back - his great form last autumn was a big part in our success.
Telford is a difficult one - some lovely play at times and you can see he can be a great player, but it just doesn’t seem to have worked as a goal scorer. I don’t understand the comments that suggest he isn’t trying.
Otherwise, I largely agree with what has been said above.

Newby is still under contract
Him, Farman and Canavan had options exercised during the season for 1yr extensions

From what i gather Tiensia won't be here, there was a falling out hence why he didn't feature much in last few weeks.

Might go back to Solihull particularly if they win the play-offs.

There is a comment above about releasing Chester. My understanding was that Chester was extended to the end of the season.

So there is no issue of releasing him. I suspect he will just seek the best offer available. I would still expect to see him in the EFL next season whatever.

Agree about Lillis. Keep him on as coach but I think we should be looking at a younger no 2 with an eye on the future. I have mentioned it before (and no I'm not related or know him) but I have been impressed with Wyll Stanway in the handful of Chester games I've seen him play.
Has a lot of Paul Farman about him including sh1thousery. Chester fans rated him player of the season but don't expect him to stay.

yeah rumour on the street is Tiensia's attitude to training has been somewhat laid back. dont shoot the messenger, just what ive heard. one things for sure it will be an interesting summer. Stanway mite be a good shout as a number 2 with an eye to the future, never seen him play but lots have told me hes decent!

still for me, a mobile striker should be our number 1 priority

I concur with all of this. And I'd add Garner to the exit list too. And Worrall. And Feely.

What do some supporters not understand you just can't release players on contract unless you pay them in full that's why contracts are signed all players will be paid until June 30th regardless if retained or released, Maybe Garner and Telford could come to some mutual agreement with the Club for release of contracts
