100% at Wembley? Hang Your Head In Shame, AI . . .

Post by pjdaly » Sat May 16, 2026 2:36 pm

Just out of curiosity I was wondering if Barrow might be the only professional or semi-professional football club in England with a 100% winning record across both Wembley Stadiums, old and new. I asked AI co-pilot the following question:-

Please name the English professional or semi-professional football clubs who hold a 100% winning record from matches played at both the old Wembley Stadium and the new Wembley Stadium combined.

I was hoping Barrow's place in this particular pantheon of greatness might be unique. Unfortunately, not quite so. AI came back to tell me that Doncaster and Bristol Rovers both have 100% winning records across the old Wembley and the new Wembley, with each club having won their one match at the old Wembley and their one match at the new Wembley.

W-h-a-a-a-a-t, said I. Did you not read my question when I said professional AND semi-professional, thus including a number of non-league clubs? Suitably red-faced, AI came back to me full of contrition and said "yes, you are right of course, Barrow have to be a third team to add to that roll of honour" and duly listed the Trophy wins of 1990 and 2010.

So, we are sadly not unique as the only 100%-ers but are part of an elite group of just three.

The moral of the story? The new "god", AI, is not infallible after all!

Whatever happens this afternoon, either Chelsea or Man City will simply be adding to their long list of failures down old Wembley Way . . . not quite in our league, are they?

Co-pilot is rubbish when it comes to footy. It doesn't even recognise the current season's fixtures and squads. Use Grok for that instead.

There will likely be more than the 3 as Morecambe have 3 wins to their name 1 at old - 2 at new
1974 FA Trophy
2007 play off final
2021 play off final

The more Al is mentioned the more l am reminded of one of my favourite films - 2001: A Space Odyssey. The 1968 film showcased amongst other things moon landings, ipads, video conferencing and artificial intelligence - that eventually malfunctions and sets about killing every human in range. Many of the things predicted for 21st century life in the film have come to be.

The fa Trophy maybe

I think Chelsea might have a thing or two to say about any trophy winning the FA Cup in 2007

It does indeed seem to be the case that Barrow are the only club to have won The FA Trophy at both the old Wembley and the new Wembley. There's no club quite like us, is there? Unique. One of a kind.

I think we're the only team that have won the FA trophy at both the old and new Wembley and I remember at the time it was stated this couldn't happen again!

As I checked in 2010, the list of FA Trophy winners in the lists of all time winners. I can confirm that Barrow are the only club to have won the FA Trophy at both old and new Wembley stadiums. I was so confident of this at the time I entered it into the Wilkapedia.
