[quote="Suffolk Blue"]I believe the names of both Johnny Haynes and Steve Earle were daubed on the wall in question prior to or just after our fixture with Fulham on 30th August 1969. quote]

Where, Copperhead Road?

John Duffin has his own take on the famous graffiti in one of his latest works-

"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

Interesting this thread has comu up again. Its amazing how long the words remain if they are not zapped quickly by the authorities

Some years after BAFC were expelled from the Football League I was at Uni in Manchester and ended up living in a bedsit in Stockport behind Edgeley Park. Used to catch the train in to Picadilly every day from Stockport. On the Staion wall approach at Stockport was daubed the name "Mick Hollis" in large white glossy paint.

Mick I believe played for both Barrow and Stockport in the early 70s. It was still there years later, and always made me feel a little sentimental when I passed it. I actually used to touch it it like a lucky charm!

TLCW wrote:I remember the game against Fulham very well- it was probably our greatest league victory ever. Fulham had been in the first division two seasons before and had some quality players. As I remember we outplayed them winning 3-1.We really did rule the 3rd on that day. The future looked very rosy indeed.
Little did we know that 3 seasons later we would be playing the likes of Ellesmere Port and Skelmersdale in the NPL.
Events off the pitch were equally interesting as both Barrow and Fulham had large contingents of skinhead/bootboys. In their regulation white t-shirts, blue jeans and braces, cropped hair and cherry red Doc Martins they were pretty intimidating and the police had their hands full keeping control- no ground segredation in those days. The police came up with the bright idea of refusing entry to anyone in boots so while some complied and were wandering around in their socks others managed to get into the ground by climbing over the wall at the corner of the Steelworks End and Dev road. I didn't witness any violence in the ground but there was a really lively atmosphere and lots of abusive singing- mainly aimed at the police if I remember correctly. At the end of the game I remember seeing a massive Fulham skinhead crying his eyes out. To this day I don't know if he was upset by the defeat or had had a slap [obviously not a kicking because their boots had all been removed!]
I can't remember another team coming to Barrow and painting so much graffiti- Putney Boot Boys sticks in my mind as I had no clue where Putney was! I imagine the graffiti was done before the game as the Fulham fans would be running too fast to the station to have time to paint the walls!
You must have a very good memory or a vivid imagination!

I was at the game - aged about 11 at the time - and I was stood in the HolkerStreetEnd. I don't recall there being many Fulham fans there that day...the ones I saw were gathered at the front of the boundary wall directly behind the goal. Never saw any intimidating behaviour from any of them.

However, there was a lot of graffiti!

Somebody mentioned the Preston League Cup game on this thread. Now that was an interesting encounter!...
I remember the rain. I also remember seeing a lot of young men walking around with 'brollies ;)

Wasn't Lancaster away the 'Night of the Long Brollies'. Not to mention an axe allegedly confiscated from one 'Barrow supporter' earning him the nickname The Mad Axeman well into his middle age?
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...
