Re: Best Loo-ser competition
Just received the following e-mail from the organisers
Good afternoon,
It has been brought to our attention that some fans have been placing multiple votes in The Best Loo-sers competition and this is being discussed on football club forums.
We originally wanted to keep the voting process as easy as possible to increase the amount of votes, so we kept it simple in good faith.
However, this system has been abused by a few, so we will update the validation process and make it more stringent.
We will add a reCaptcha field, name and address and phone number per entry.
This will make each entry longer to complete, which we wanted to avoid, but by introducing an extra level of security it should minimise the abuse.
We also ask you to get in touch with the administrators of the forums and fan clubs and instruct them to delete those posts, as these abusers are breaching the T&Cs and the clubs concerned risk being disqualified.
We will be looking at the database and deleting any bogus votes to keep the system fair.
Best wishes, Nick

Re: Best Loo-ser competition
Think they were being just a touch naive there. Still, might mean about 1.200 Ebbsfleet votes get discounted.
It all comes 'round again.
Re: Best Loo-ser competition
They will probably get more votes discounted than us.
Also, I still have a load of email addresses and family members whose name and address I know, so I'll get busy with that when they have changed the rules.

Tis a shite competition anyway.Ste Story wrote:Probably more to do some Plymouth fans saying they've posted 40times each using guerillamail or whatever
A competition that never seems to end, where the best entrant won't win, just the one with most losers who want to waste time voting for them, where the end result involves a load of crap being piped into the public domain...
Sound familiar?

I'm sure they are a few but there is no real need for us to cheat TBH.Reg wrote:They will probably get more votes discounted than us.

We have only contacted current active Myfootballclub members and fans we have emails for and together they number about 5000.
We also have a popular facebook page which we have been contacting too.
We haven't even got the contact list for the main myfootballclub inactive membership going yet and they number over 20,000
What difference would a few duplicate entries make to us?

It's a shame that those 5,000 don't go and watch you. MyFootballClubArithonfleet wrote:I'm sure they are a few but there is no real need for us to cheat TBH.Reg wrote:They will probably get more votes discounted than us.

Re: Best Loo-ser competition
That's true!
Many live a long way from the ground to be fair and about 1000 of them are overseas.
We do get visitors to the matches from overseas members every week too.
That said, more should come to matches that do.
Same could be said of most non league teams though unfortunately.
most would prefer the Premier league
Being so close to several London teams doesn't help.

Or they could, yano, support their local team? One they actually have an affinity?Arithonfleet wrote:That said, more should come to matches that do.

Re: Best Loo-ser competition
A lot do watch their local team.
A lot have developed an affinity with the Fleet now though and are closer to them in terms of support than they are their local team.
When you put money into a club and play a part in its decision making then that affinity grows.
A lot left in the early days because they didn't really feel committed to the team but those that have remained are pretty much committed now.
We have fans all round the world that listen in to internet radio commentary and support the club by buying shirt replicas and "virtual" tickets so local kids can go to the match free in their stead.
I live in Leicester and used to be a Season ticket holder there but i'd rather watch lower league football to be honest. It is less dominated by big bucks and I enjoy it more.
I went to Barrow two seasons ago (bit of a trek) and will be there again in December.

Your Italian fan is amazing. Flying over for the home games and then flying straight back afterwards.
Crickey, and we thought we did some travelling.
