Ins and Outs
Re: Ins and Outs
I think Mackreth and Rutherford are key to how this goes over summer
Scenario 1.....
With our 442 system- If we can keep Rutherford and Mackreth- then Bayliss can focus entirely on the weak areas that we need to address. I think that is to bring in an attacking midfielder and a really experienced midfield general who can bring Owen on to the next level, because who's he learning from out there? no one. I think bringing in just these two players alone would improve the team and help us get more possesion and goals from midfield.
Scenario 2
My concern if we do lose Ruthers and Jack Mack is that we won't have enough £ for wholesale changes to go with a narrower system next season. So Bayliss would then have to focus on replacing these two first and that means we may miss out on said attacking midfielder and midfield general. The scenario then is that we replace Jack Mac and Ruthers, but haven't really strengthened, just replaced our two wide men
Conclusion- Losing Rutherford and Mackreth causes a much bigger headache for Bayliss than keeping hold of them.
Improved conract offers for these two. If that is possible

Re: Ins and Outs
I like Ruthers, but seriously Jonty do you really think there will be a queue of better clubs waiting to sign him up?
He's far too inconsistant, he doesn't score anywhere near enough goals, he's only got one decent foot but still the majority of supporters here like him..........would he want to go anywhere else even if someone was offering the same sort of money? He's a likable lad but with limited skill & he never seems to kick onto the next level. I'd like to see him stay but I dont really think he'd be that hard to replace.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Ins and Outs
Chester must surely be back in the running to sign up up and coming young players following their promotion.............

You wouldn't be surprised to see Chester sniffing around a few of our players and they will be able to crush us in terms of wages that can be offered to players.

Re: Ins and Outs
Jack Mackreth would be a loss and in the last few games has looked more like the player he was early-mid season. His pace and willingness to run at defenders brought us our first goal today through Cook, and he was involved in the play before Baker scored our second.
I don't know how anyone can really compare Mackreth with Rutherford as they are streets apart.
Mackreth is young, quick, can beat defenders and deliver a decent cross (he even set up Cook up with a left footed cross today which Cook somehow headed wide)
Rutherford on the other hand has been here three years now? and in that time has gone backwards. He can't beat a defender and always looks to pass the ball sideways or backwards usually to Gavin Skelton putting him under pressure. I can't remember the last goal he scored or played a part in creating and I would say he's our weak link rather than a player we should be keeping. He tries yes but effort alone isn't enough.

Re: Ins and Outs
Although Chester may get double our crowds they don't charge as much for admission as we do so the deal wouldn't be as much as some would imagine and they are also in a lower league than us. Would both Owen and Mackreth drop down even further down the leagues - I suspect not?Reg wrote:Or close to Wales.boyliegladbach wrote:I reckon James Owen and Jack Mackreth will be off to wales somewhere.

Re: Ins and Outs
Actually the top few teams would do OK in the Conference. Plus a couple of them are full-time, unlike Barrow. Hence why Spender left for TNS.Footyfan wrote:Only on their holidays Welsh League football is poor
Of course, Boylie could have been talking about the likes of Wrexham or English clubs that are near the Welsh border, like Crewe.
Speaking of Crewe, I believe Alan Martin's contract comes to an end this summer. Doubt that he's in our reach though.

I'm not saying that they will of course, but Chester are the biggest NL club by some distance in the NW and will have both spending power and pulling power do to their stature. If they wanted one of our players, I would imagine all they would have to do is click their fingers.

Yjm was at Chester for a period on loan from Tranmere can't see him going back

Are they?? Most definitely not in my opinion.Reg wrote:

Unless I've missed something blindingly obvious, I think they are.

Stockport, Wrexham?? That's just without thinking.Reg wrote:Unless I've missed something blindingly obvious, I think they are.
To be honest I'd dispute whether they are actually much bigger than us as well. They were getting shocking crowds for the last couple of years before they went pop, and have never been particularly well supported. It will be interesting to see whether their current support sticks with them long term.
Re: Ins and Outs
Totally forgot about both of them.
I would put Chester on par with them though.
When they're in the same division, they would have similar gates and ambitions.
