Re: Barrow AFC vs Newport Match Thread
Agree with Kieron - I want bs premier football and if they club decided to take a demotion based on level of support if be very angry - positives the average is over 1200, the corporates are doing well etc. We wouldn't get this in bs n plus savings in travel are not as big as you would think - take a look at a map of where BSN clubs are and there certainly not that much nearer - I don't think I could watch a team in BSN that knows it's place and us content to be there

Anger and frustration ITT!
I could add more meat to the bones of my pointless post but where would the fun in that be?

Kid a quid plus decent weather still equalled a crap crowd, less than 800 Barrow fans. Big empty spaces on the Pop Side although plenty in corporate. Doesn't bode well for next seasons budget.
Up the Ziggers.

Anyone know where Smith was?

He was at the game, not sure why he didn't play.DSBlue72 wrote:Anyone know where Smith was?

Danny Hurst was immense. Much of our passing was wayward far too often throughout the game. We showed more fight in the second half which was just what was needed as Newport had some very good chances in the first.

Re: Barrow AFC vs Newport Match Thread
Yesterday was a pretty good spectacle. There was goal action and a lively tempo to most of the match.
An early goal helped. Defending the Steelworks End, James Owen, who had an excellent match, lofted clear from right back, Andy Cook on halfway delicately dropped the ball with his instep into the path of Jack Mackreth who sped clear down the right, thumped in a cross which Thompson couldn't hold, and the Ferryhill Finisher following up drove home powerfully left-footed past bodies from 12 yards.
Newport were more purposeful than us with possession in the first half, and had their best spell after nabbing the equaliser. A lofted free kick from 40 yards out was allowed to travel unchallenged and Ismail Yakubu glanced a header down and in from 10 yards. End of season defending.
Thereafter, Danny Hurst made several good saves: the best low at his near post from a dipping drive. He was calm in all he did, commanded the area on crosses, and showed no reluctance to be brave around flying feet. As he continues his on field rehabilitation, it was really encouraging to see Danny play as well as he has for much of the season.
In the second half, we turned Newport round with quick direct balls over the top, either into the front two or down the right for pacey Jack Mack. James Owen was particularly instrumental here. Richie Baker, who'd been rather wayward in possession, showed another of his class touches as he struck low into the bottom left corner from 20 yards with minimal hesitation after the ball fell centrally. From his reaction, that goal meant a lot to him. Adam Boyes, who teamed up challengingly with Andy Cook, sealed the deal with a shot on the turn from the edge of the area, keeper Thompson maybe a tad slow to get down to the precise shot into the left corner.
Perhaps with an eye on the FA Trophy Final, Newport were less spritely as the game wore on and Danny Hurst was far less busy than he was in the first half.
It's always slightly sad as the season ends. There'll inevitably be lads who won't be here next season. We wish them well. It's a big thank you to the team for their efforts, and hoping the next 12 or so weeks don't insist on dragging themselves out!

I heard similar things but from a very different source.Reg wrote:Heard a couple of disturbing things from the voice of Ste Story this afternoon.
One distinctly more likely than the other but both would disappoint me for different reasons.
Re: Barrow AFC vs Newport Match Thread
found this looking for Newport Trophy stuff- I wanted them to win today-
Late- but worth a watch. Good coverage.
The woeful team defending first half.....highlights the issues that need sorting out over summer. Good going forward second half though.

No anger or frustration, just think it was an absolute waste of a post. If you have something to say then get on with it, if not why waste peoples time with pointless drivel.Reg wrote:Anger and frustration ITT!
