Released
Re: Released
Could be the training will be much closer to home. That might suit the Durham lads but can't see it going down well with the North Wales and Wirral based players ... unless he thinks they could get away with doubling up on the training - 2 sessions on one day - so they'd only have to travel 2 days instead of 4. With Tuesday games they'd only have to come in on a Monday and a Friday.
Sorted!!

Re: Released
I'm surprised Phil Bolland and Paul Smith have been released. Both have had good seasons. There are, of course, a number of reasons why a mutual agreement might not be reached.
The volume of vitriol directed at our captain has been much quieter than in previous seasons, a sign of improved performances even at 35. I'm sad he's leaving us; he's contributed massively to a lot of our greatest moments over the last three seasons, and he was a different kind of centre half to the whack clear merchants who often frequent this division.
Although he did have his flaws (hence why he is a Conference defender who has spent most of his career in non-league) I think he served us very well. His positional sense, timing of a challenge, calm manner, and distribution from the back exuded class. He was less vocal than I'd like a captain to be, and could struggle against more robust forwards. We'd have benefited with a stronger partner for him. Danny Hone had a good spell with us, but the combination at centre half - a consistent failing of ours - has been a tad weak physically. Note how Braintree and FGRs strong front lines caused much difficulty. To improve, we need to get stronger specimens in at centre half - mobile Jonahs. But will they have the qualities that Bolly had? We'll be missing a lot with Phil's departure, and it might be only fully appreciated now he's left.
Paul Smith showed enough potential to be worthy of a contract, presumably not one of the higher ones either. He was caught out at right back on several occasions and his passing could be wayward, but potential was there. His work down the right in tandem with Jack Mackreth was potent, and the shape of his crossing the best at the club.
I have no argument with the others released. Did we see enough of Cliff Moyo to make a convincing decision either way?
Best wishes to all. Many thanks for your efforts with us.

Re: Released
Precisely what we have been missing. Hume and Salmon - McNulty and Jonah ... these were balanced partnerships. A bully and a player works well together ... Bellend was neither.Adam29 wrote:Speaking to bayliss on Saturday his words were he wants bully's at centre half, so this must be the line he's taking

Re: Released
A painfully unfunny wannabe comedian and base abuse of our former captain. No wonder people are leaving this place. The coldness shown to someone who's represented us for three seasons is disappointing.

Re: Released
Yeah lets get some conference north class defenders in!
Jesus, Bolly has been one of the main features in one of the most successful eras of the club, give the guy a break. Lets hope we dont end up with a pair of Adam Quinns at the back, cos he was shite. Least bolly could pass the ball.
On another note, Hulbert has just tweeted this, "robinh1980
My future lies elsewhere all bluebirds. I have not heard anything so I appreciate all u support and time at the club.Best of wishes."
Nice to see the club showing off their excellent communcation skills once again.

Re: Released
Absolute joke if Hulberts just been left in the lurch and not heard a single thing, embarrassing and what a way to treat a superb player and decent guy...
Re: Released
If there is criticism due in this case (and we only have Robin's tweet to go on), you should reserve it for DB, not "the club".Steeley wrote:Nice to see the club showing off their excellent communcation skills once again.

Bayliss doesn't want CBs who can pass the ball. All he wants is thugs who lump it into the stand and would head their granny.Steeley wrote:Yeah lets get some conference north class defenders in!

Re: Released
If all this is correct re:hulbert then another case of this Club shooting itself in the foot. A lot of the BOD just do not know what good communication skilling is all about. Afraid Bayles may have walked into that trap as well.
Why on earth do we still have Ferrell? Is beyond>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. I really hope that we can get Hone if Lincoln release him.
As for the rest well...win some loose some. Lomax is a pudding but we should have looked at Smith. YES we do need a bully at the back and some1 in mid-field who can hold the game up.
Glad about Hurst,Macca,Cook and Boyes but not a great lover of Rurtherford.
Also this new coach is like a breath of fresh air.

Re: Released
Surely its not just DB's job to deal with contracts etc? Also, the BOD pay DB's wage, its their responsibility to make sure hes treating the staff correctly.jim wrote:If there is criticism due in this case (and we only have Robin's tweet to go on), you should reserve it for DB, not "the club".Steeley wrote:Nice to see the club showing off their excellent communcation skills once again.

Re: Released
I'm a little surprised & disappointed that Bolland has left, his style of play was never going to make him a fans favourite but I thought he did well for us over the three seasons he's been here. Just because a defender doesn't knock every opposing player over like a bunch of skittles doesn't mean he's a bad player.
A balance, as some are suggesting would probably be best but just because we haven't got the McNulty type player in the team at the moment doesn't mean Bolly was the wrong player just that we perhaps haven't found the right type of partner for him.
Thanks Phil for three good years.
Smith is another I'm a little shocked at going, right back wasn't his best position but he did ok there for us in the absence of a specialised player. Hopefully DB will be looking at bringing in a proper RB for next season, it has cost us on a few occasions this term.
Just to add to the other posts regarding the Hulbert situation (and Ferrel) if DB hasn't been in touch with these players at the same time as letting the rest know it's a pretty poor do & needs sorting as soon as possible, the damage has most likely already been done though.
Basic stuff really but the club seem to let it happpen time & time again.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
