I think Baker has it in him to be this player. I hope that's the reason DB has offered him a contract. Next season will be the one for Baker to show us what he can do - I hope!Jonty wrote: We need a player who can provide an attacking option through the middle and can score goals from open play.

key players for me are Hurst / S Pearson / Skelton / Owen / Mackreth. M Pearson- I don't know, I really hope he can recover his fitness and come back. But he's had two season ending injuries already.
So who's coming in then- those "In the know" Who is this really really great winger Bayliss is talking about.
Ashley Hoskins!!

Suffered a bad leg-break around Xmas. His recovery (or lack of) could be contributory factor. Think he was a first team regular before that.Steeley wrote:Just seen Paul Black's been released from Oldham, had him on loan the other year.

I'm not seeing it with Baker last season that he can do this. Someone like Curtis / Almond player is neededjim wrote:I think Baker has it in him to be this player. Heard that one of our players is off to Chester. Watch this space...
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.
If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

I can't fault his reasoning for any of those decisions. I hope Cliff returns at some point as he was a very quick player and has shown a lot of potential IMHO.jim wrote: On NWEM web site, DB explains his reasons for releasing players:

Also can't fault Cliff Moyo for putting his education first.
Re: Ins and Outs
If we are going to go down this route- then initially a one year deal makes sense. But every now and then we may unearth a player with great potential to go on in the game (and we have with Mackreth) So how does Bayliss protect the club from losing such players for nothing after one season if they are only on one year deals? I would hope that if such a player is identified then very early in his Barrow career there would be scope to offer them improved terms and a longer (2 year)contract- Bayliss needs to be able to do this and of course it would need backing from the BOD but doing this and getting them on a longer deal would help prevent the club from losing such players for nothing after one season and we would be better placed to command a fee. We are going to have to accept that if a bigger club in for any promising young players then they will go and a couple of such players could well be on their way and we will get zilch for them. Ok a tribunal fee- what will that be?
We've been in the BSBP for 4 seasons and McNulty and Walker are the only two I can remember that have brought in any transfer revenue. We are losing good players through one year deals (think Bond)
Plus- surely Bayliss wants to build a side. How can that happen if key players are walking away.
Its not always a bad thing with the 2 year deal. Just next time Bayliss needs to be absolutely certain that its the right thing to do. I'm gobsmacked that he said "He never came knocking on my door" (Nicho) we need to make sure players show the right desire to play for us.
I know there's an element of risk involved for the club, players can get injured, lose form, but just trying to balance the view there. There's pro's to having players on longer deals that need to be considered. I would guess that if Boyes had continued his early season scoring form then many clubs would be taking notice and we'd be in a strong position to command a fee and that is the business side of football we need to be in.

Re: Ins and Outs
I think that we have tried this with one or two players this season (Mackreth, Cook?), but the players concerned haven't as yet signed. We would, I believe, get a fee decided by a Tribunal for any under-24 players who move on, but this not be as high a value as would be obtained in the transfer market - and likely no sell-on clause.Jonty wrote:If we are going to go down this route- then initially a one year deal makes sense. Re: Ins and Outs
Can we not offer one of those contract types you hear about all the time where it's a one year deal where the club has the right to take up the option of a further year... or not if they're crap?

Re: Ins and Outs
You can put clauses in contracts where if players play a certain number of games they are entitled to a new year could do thatEric Cartman wrote:Can we not offer one of those contract types you hear about all the time where it's a one year deal where the club has the right to take up the option of a further year... or not if they're crap?
