Re: Ins and Outs
I was getting at what Jonty was saying, albeit in less words
if players were granted an extra year based on appearances then we could be stuck with players that haven't worked out because of player shortages over the season. Better to have a second year as an option that is entirely the gaffers choice with regards to whether or not he takes it up.
Steve Herbert supports the nob theory - Saturday 4th February 2012.
If this bus crashed and everybody on it died, Barrow football would end - Daz Boyle, Boston away, August 9th 2014.

Re: Ins and Outs
Interesting that Lancaster are setting up a "supporters' player fund". The basic concept is that the fans put money into a pot, and that money gets spent on one player. Obviously, the more money the fans raise the better the player they get.

Re: Ins and Outs
I love that idea... Lancaster don't often come up with such good ideas, look at the sponsorship money that we managed to raise.
How about a simular idea only have a player fund, run it from now till whenever and keep raising money for a player of real quality.
Obviously before all the neigh-sayers inform me that its up to the club who to buy not us supporters. But I propose not stipulating transfer targets, just letting the money be spent on a player. Obviously we would like to know who our money is going to.
Surely there must be some takers for a £10 punt on finding a new young player??

I would not contribute £0.01 to such a fund.

Re: Ins and Outs
Okay then reg, I will sign you up for £0.001p (or your latest tesco coupon, which ever is the greater value)
Re: Ins and Outs
Remember something happened along these lines in the early 60's. Supporters raised money and got a player in, the board later sold him without mentioning anything to the supporters which caused a lot of ill feeling. I'm sure one of our older supporters will be able to come up with the players name and a few more details.barrowranger wrote:I love that idea... I just think there are far more important things to raise money for i.e the ground which is in need of some TCL.Adam29 wrote:Not saying its a good idea but didn't Oxford do something along those lines to sign James constable? The goals he scored weren't exactly tinpot were they?
Comparing us to Oxford who are a much bigger club and could obviously raise far more than us is interesting.

I have made my mind up i wouldn't support a player fund but if we were raising money to improve the ground i would gladly donate.

Re: Ins and Outs
?? Because a couple of thousand spent on the ground is going to bring league success rolling back....
Surely spending money on adding to a player budget to get that extra potential quality and goals could promote the club much better than a lick of paint and more safety signs!!
I love how a 60's event was sighted as the downfall of this plan, but the moment a 12th man suggestion that works is brought forward like Oxfords, we all boo-hiss it!!
Never mind!

Good idea- See tictactoes post to pick up and continue with this fundraising theme.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.
