New Commercial Manager

Post by John Very Little » Sat Sep 29, 2012 9:06 pm

This hasn't been mentioned officially yet but it should been, in that the new Commercial Manager has started. As a result there were 100 in the corporate for todays game and most of them stayed in the Cross Bar afterwards to see the Man Utd game. One thing of note was that Des Johnson was one of those who was there.
At the Meet the Board Evening it was mentioned that a new Commercial Manager was starting on something like a commission only basis. Firstly the club should have announced this just to let everyone know who they are so that when they do come asking for people to sponsor games everyone knows them. Also what's their name and how can they be contacted etc?
TBH I understand that the club have informed Miller Waite of some things (not all that needs advertising) but MW haven't always updated the Official Website but this position does need to be announced asap to give the new Commercial Manager a chance to get more income for us - they sem to have made a decent start if today is anything to go by.

You seem to be putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5. Ray Armstrong invited around 50 of his friends of which DJ was one of those invited.

I wasn't aware of the circumstances surrounding so many corporates being there on Saturday and as we were told by the board that the new Commercial Manager was starting a few weeks ago and since then the sponsorship deals have been updated on the Official Website and a few deals had been done it was easy to understand why people (not just me) came to this conclusion. At least its answered the question about there being a lot more corporates than normal!!!

If putting a lot more questionable posts on here is the way to get some answers then perhaps it should be done more often so that they will be corrected and we do get the right answers, seen as the club will tell us sod all or tell us a load of rubbish just to shut us up - AGM in August, AGM in September, Debentures Notices in September, the shirts were here for the end of August/2nd week in September/last Saturday.....0/4, Commercial Manager started a few weeks ago...0/5?

So putting untruths and tarnishing reputations is a very adult way to go about things now, interesting!

My initial post was a misunderstanding and I didn't say anything about untruths or tarnishing reputations, although I see how my questionable posts may have alluded to that.
If you want to have a go at anyone for untruths then I suggest you contact the board after all of what they have put out.

I would just like to correct a number of issues.

1. To Be Very Very Honest Miller Waite have always put on whatever the club have asked. I know of NO incident where they have refused or failed to fulfil any request sent by the club.

2. The club have NOT appointed a new Commercial Manager. At the fans meeting it was explained that we were employing someone to go out to firms to seek sponsorship income on a commission basis only.

3. As previous posters have already clarified the corporate rooms were not filled as a result of this gentleman's actions.

Miller Waite are working hard to help the club help itself improving the website. Allegations to the contrary do not help our club in any way.

Thank you

John Mackay (Director Barrow AFC)

I'm guessing then that you were told this in a conversation after the event? I guess... because nobody said it was a commercial manager that was being appointed during the presentation. The words used were that somebody was joining the organisation on a commission only basis. No mention of an exact role.

To be fair to Tidds though, it was not beyond the realms of possibility to make a wrong assumption, although whether it was worth a thread is another matter IMO ;) .

When you're having a discussion about the lack of a Commercial Manager, and 'somebody is joining on a commission only basis' ...

Anyway, away from semantics, the good thing is that it was busy, whatever the reason. Good news folks, you know, the sort we don't need to argue about :D

Thanks to John Mackay for the update.
As BA says when the board were on about appointing someone on a commission only basis to boost income then its a fair assumption to make that person would be a Commercial Manager-type person and in reference to BFH my conversations with directors have given me this impression. Its been mentioned on other threads on this forum recently where this person has been referred to as a 'Commercial Manager' and nobody has picked up the other posters on that? Perhaps something like this should have been mentioned on the Official Website and publicised a bit more, along with their correct title? ;)
I know of some things (a few) not lots as is being implied, that have been sent to MW that haven't gone on the website immediately, hence my comment about the website which still needs so much doing to it IMO (not MW's fault either). Would it not be easier for the club to run their own website themselves?
I do think that better, regular communuication from the club would prevent confusion similar to the above from occuring.
Glad of all those in the corporate who came along and stayed a good while afterwards on Saturday and hope they come back.
