The next BDF event will be a Race Night sponsored by Coral Bookmakers at the Crossbar on Friday November 9th starting at 8pm.

As usual we are looking for your support before the night to sponsor the individual races (£20) and to sell Race Cards (£1 to name a horse, 8 horses on a card and the winner of each race wins a prize).

If anyone is able to help please contact Russ Rawley on 07921923785 or email russrawley@gmail.com or see any bdf member at next weeks game.

Thanks to Ste for adding the poster.

A few years ago these Race Nights were held in various pubs round town, Concle & Bay Horse were a couple I seem to recall. Just thinking that it might be an idea to try this again, hoping that by using different pubs a few people who've been to the soccer before might become interested. Only downside is the lost revenue in the Crossbar but this could be offset by selling the future match tickets etc on the night.

Anyone want to help by naming a horse via the forum?

I'll sell "virtual" race cards on here and fill the details in on the forms myself.

It costs £1 per horse, 1 in 8 is a guaranteed winner and will recieve a prize, all I need from you is the name of your horse and your name, the £1 can be paid by Paypal or PM me for details of where to send a cheque.

Being an ex pat who never attended one of these how exactly does it work ?
Is it based on old footage of actual horse races or are simulated horses advanced over a coarse by some form of randomly drawn numbers or is it by someother means.

Your right about the Cross bar losing the revenue but when I was on the Survival Fund we used different pubs & came to an arrangement with the landlord.
Basically the landlord would make a large contribution towards the bottles of wine. The wine used to make a large dent in profits so this sort of set up worked very well. I also had an arrangement with a local off licence, we would buy all our wine off him & we would get a big discount, not only because we were buying the wine from his shop but he wanted to help the club at the time. This worked reall well & IIRC the most we raised in one night was just under a £1,000 (John or Russ would be able to confirm that)
Things have change & I dont know if either of these would work now, any way I'm sure they've been weighed up & thought of by the BDF who are doing a fantastic job as it is.
Back on topic - I'm selling some cards, I'll let you know in a day or two how many.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

The races are genuine actual Horse Races, or Greyhound Race footage. Sometimes there is Harness Racing, or is more commonly known the 'Trots', where the horse pulls a two-wheeled cart. There are eight runners in each race.

Each individual race is contained within a sealed DVD case, which the BDF obtain from a specialist Race Night supplier, so that there can be no accusations of any prior knowledge of the race results.

Could any one with Race Cards please let Russ Rawley russrawley@gmail.com know how many you have sold by the end of tomorrow (Wednesday) so we can arrange prizes.

We are still looking for a couple of race sponsors, if anyone is interested please contact Russ.

A reminder that the doors open at 7pm on Friday night in the Crossbar, first race is at 8 pm, please try and get down and encourage friends, colleagues and family to do likewise, thanks.
