We could be a good team. I think most people can see that we have a decent enough squad, we're just not getting the most out of them.

We're in a big rut but the situation is far from irretrievable. We need a change of direction though and by that, I mean a change in the way we approach games, before people put words in my mouth.

I agree with what Reg said

workrate / passion / comitment- 100%

players- ability is there- we have players as good as Hereford had out tonight.

But we are always overworking the ball and not getting it forward quick enough. we always give teams too much time to organise. I wish we'd be a little bit more direct with our attack. Stop pushing it wide all the time. It's very frustrating.

A different approach going forward is certainly needed.

The 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation works very well away from home where we are looking to defend and gain a point if possible. At home though we should be the team on the front foot and looking to attack teams from the off, as such we should be playing 4-4-2, Jackson is wasted coming on for 10mins when we are hoofing the ball forward, give him chance to build a partnership with Boyes or use Almond as the slightly deeper striker rather than on the wing where any team who uses a scout knows that he will try to cut inside and shoot.
Its frustrating because we do actually have a good enough (I believe) first 11 to keep us up but then when you look to the bench there isn't a lot to change it and if there is Bayliss rarely uses a sub before 75mins anyway. For starters I'd put Hessey back in at centre back as our league is no place for two young centre backs to learn their trade together, one is fine but you need an experienced head in there as well (I know Peo's been here a while but he's still relatively young). Anderson has done well for us but I rated Aldred a lot higher, its a real shame his loan ran out when it did. This would also allow Skelton another go at left back, yes he played poorly at the start of the season but he's worth another go at providing some width.
We are really missing a Jack Mack type player who can break at pace, we break up an opposition attack and more often than not the centre midfielders have to pass back to one of the full backs and there is only Boyes ahead of the ball. As I mentioned earlier Almond is becoming far too predictable and whilst Rutherford worked hard he's still reluctant to just whip a ball into the box. I admit I haven't seen a lot of him but what has happened to McConville? He was supposed to be a bright young talent when at Accrington.
I really worry for us this season and am becoming to think it is the one to many we've all been dreading, another awful crowd tonight and if we lose to Macclesfield we won't have another good crowd all season and also won't have any money for much needed (centre back, quick winger, striker) reinforcements in Jan

Absolute abismal 2nite. Agree we have the makings of a side that can keep us in this division. The management has to take responsibility for this. It is NO GOOD that Baylis keeps chanting that we will not be relegated. Well here is some reality news Mr Manager....we will be relegated...and most of that fault is NOT the pllayers.
Even tonite when we had numerous chances, the players did not know what to do. Rutherford was worse than abismal. He beat his man on a couple of times in the first half then came back to try and do the same. Finger up backside and mind in neutral. The Bulls had him tapped up and he was more or less clueless. Sad about Hurst. He must be the unluckiest goalie in the land. PEO need have no shame. He nothing to do and was not at fault with the goals.
Hope I am wrong but Macc are gonna hammer us come Tuesday but I bet the side still has Rutherford in it. :flag:

I do not think we have the makings of a good side with our present squad and do now feel that they have had their chance and failed and also our tactics require rethinking.I wonder if DB is capable of this because he hasnt up to now........
Why does Baker have to take free kicks /corners etc they are abyssmal..Throw ins are so poor and predictable ,do we not practice any thing new in our training .Why does DB play players out of position and not utilise them where they perform at their best.We must be the best team in playing sideways/backwards in the league but that wont produce goals and wins.
We are bottom of the league because we deserve to be there based on performances, the good ones you could count on one hand, and i cannot see it improving sad to say.

Hessey is our best centre half. Play him in centre half and stop [SwearFilter] about playing people out of position. Tonight our back 4 consisted of 4 centre backs. And we wonder why we look devoid of ideas going forward, proper fullbacks needed. Also stick Skelton in left back and drop peo for Anderson imo.

How the [SwearFilter] James Owen can't get into a side with absolutely no bite is beyond me. 5 in midfield and Hereford still had the run of the park. Our side is crying out for James Owen right now.

You don't have to be good to stay in this division its full of shite, just play people in position with a clear job to do and have a [SwearFilter] game plan. If we start to do that we've got it in us to survive. Keep going as we are and we're heading to the bsn. Simple as that.

I just got the feeling last night that we were playing in an inhibited way, trying to play football and keep the ball but no verve, nothing unpredictable. I hate to say it, but it reminded me of the Wilson days before D&D took over and released the players' natural ability. Perhaps Tuesday is a chance to go out and just have a go?

Another thought - if Skelton came back at left back, could Hessey do the holding/harassing job in midfield?

Can anyone who watched the last night’s game on TV or listened to it on the radio summarise what the ‘experts’ made of Barrow’s shortcomings.

From the bleak expanses of the Holker End it looked like we dominated the game but fannied about left to right instead of at the opposition goal. The few attempts on Bitner were of the calibre that caused the Sunday League to call it a day and where was the heavy frost when we needed it?
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

Last night was as bad as it gets, terrible stuff. Haven't heard Bayliss' interview but if he did say we created good chances then I'm not sure what game he was watching.

We're just not getting the best out of the squad we've got, we've got more than enough to stay up comfortably but thats not going to happen unless we start using what we've got properly. The most obvious one is Hessey, he's never a left back but should be the first centre half on the team sheet. Almond is being wasted out wide where he's just far too predictable, play him in the middle just behind a forward however and he's a different player. Baker is just shit, apart from chipping in with the odd goal he offers nothing and wastes every set piece he takes. How Owen can't get into that midfield I don't know. As much as I like Mike Pearson he's been dreadful all season, he should have been dropped weeks ago with Hessey and Anderson being paired together at centre half.

We keep the ball quite well at times, but do nothing with it. Boyes Jackson or whoever are constantly playing with their back to goal. We play into Boyes/Jackson's feet on the edge of the box, they come back out, give back to a midfielder and then the same thing is repeated until we eventually lose it. We have absolutely zero penetration. I really believe that a forward line of Boyes, Almond and Jackson is amongst the best in this division but they aren't being used correctly. Danny Rowe needs to be used more also when he's fully fit.

We've got it in us to stay up, but I have serious doubts that we will.

If the board seriously want us to stay in this league we need to bring someone in who can get them to play, sorry Bayliss obviously can't Micky Mellon is available bring him or someone else to either help Bayliss or replace him, I know you will say we can't afford to get rid of him but can we afford not to.

Micky Mellons a crap manager, he just got lucky that he had loads of money to spend
Kieron's post and especially the parts about Baker, Almond and Hessey sums it up perfectly for me
