Re: Barrow v stockport
Didn't see one player with an ounce if urgency last night, no passion or fire in the belly, they wanted it more which is very worrying!!! Last night was a massive game and we just never got in there faces. Second half was as bad as I've seen this season and that's saying something.... Games are running out, I fear Vauxhall Motors are on the horizon.....that will pull the crowds in eh

Re: Barrow v stockport
I think a lot of these reviews are a bit harsh. It was a good game to watch until half-way through the second half. Little Danny Rowe was busy as hell, Skelts was marauding forward, Peo was having a great game, Sodje STILL wasn't winning any headers but his positional play was good. Hunter was doing ok as a makeshift fullback but was caught out of position once or twice. Ruthers, Baker, Big Danny Rowe...pretty ineffectual last night but mainly because of the poor quality of final ball.
The continued reliance on playing the ball into the centre of the outer penalty area just wasn't working and we didn't change it. Every single time the guys were getting crowded out and no chance to get a good shot in.
The only real letdown (for me anyway) last night was yet another poor game by Hurst. He ain't a good keeper.

Fair enough, but I fear with this "it wasn't that bad" attitude we will run out of time to get it right!!!!Bigfathoss wrote:I think a lot of these reviews are a bit harsh. Jason walker was a great example of if you shoot you score. His 'wonder' goals were hardly in the top corner etc, but just caught the keeper out, keepers in this league are hardly amazing, we know that from our own. Shots=goals.

Agreed - far too much fancy stuff - just shoot!Steeley wrote:Jason walker was a great example of if you shoot you score. His 'wonder' goals were hardly in the top corner etc, but just caught the keeper out, keepers in this league are hardly amazing, we know that from our own. Shots=goals.
Trouble is that the majority of shots last night were quite tame.
Re: Barrow v stockport
Bayliss can often suffer from the football managerial disease of myopia but his post-match comments were right as far as I was concerned - - - we were flat and deserved nothing, just as in the Nuneaton game.
Just like in the Nuneaton match Baker and Harvey went awol in the second half. Boyes was quiet but he is one who can definitely be excused due to his shortage of match-time (plus the fact that we all know he generally gives it everything).
I look at Danny L. Rowe. I rate this guy as a footballer. He gets on the ball and takes a look in an effort to try and do something constructive. This sometimes leads him to dwelling too long and losing it but I have faith that he is a decent footballer. But - - - - where was the work rate last night??? I question his commitment and work ethic. Another poster has said he is the laziest footballer he has seen. That is a strong and sweeping remark but it held water last night. Pull your socks up Rowe and start showing us the hard yards to go with the ability you possess.
Harvey was disappointing last night. This lad is the most naturally gifted footballer we have but, as I have said before, he has been disappointing too often this season. In recent games he has shone and shown that he could be a pearl in our team but last night he was back to the anonymity of earlier.
I thought we were down after the Nuneaton game but then Sodje came, solidified the defence, and made it appear that we possess the capability to perform as a mid-table team in this league. That's no good though if the team shows the complacency it showed last night. It reminds me of the fateful season of 71-72 when we had a team good enough to stay out of the bottom four (and preserve our FL status) but poor attitudes and poor ethics from some players led to "on-off" patterns of performance just as we are witnessing recently. The players (or some of them) need to take more responsibility and show the attitude to get us to safety. Last night's second half performance was an insult to fans who paid good money in freezing cold weather to support the club.

Well put Paul. I'd also like to ask where james Owen was last night! Surely Db could see how off the pace the middle two where, his work rate and effort may have been just what we needed to keep a foot hold in the game.pjdaly wrote:Bayliss can often suffer from the football managerial disease of myopia but his post-match comments were right as far as I was concerned - - - we were flat and deserved nothing, just as in the Nuneaton game.

Having said that, if we'd have taken one of the several good chances we made in the 1st half, I'm sure they would have collapsed given their recent run of form.
Re: Barrow v stockport
Yes,the writings on the wall now, but what I find worrying is that when a team is promoted they tend to in most cases carry that positive attitude into their next campaign, and the negativity that surrounds right now, well !.Jonty wrote:I've remained positive since the New year but tonight I didn't see enough out there to be confident that we will stay up. We just aren't good enough and I can't see us getting the wins needed to get us out of this. At 2-0 I just looked around at the flat empty atmosphere and just thought another defeat- another low crowd, no money, sadly not enough quality. Then I was thinking on the way home how can the club can win back the hearts of the Barrow community from the league below because tonight we had 810 for a massive relegation battle game. I'm stunned at the lack of support and something has to change. Eveything needs freshening up over summer and if that is from the BSN so be it. Get used to that idea and it doesn't seem that bad. We are struggling now.
Re: Barrow v stockport
In a really tame atmosphere provided by the worryingly few 700 or so home fans, a decent first half from both teams although our attackers were regularly bullied off the ball - a familiar story with Adam Boyes this season although he did win some headers in the first quarter. Stockport seemed to have been told to shoot on sight but didn't really trouble Hurst too much.
In the second half our work rate and determination seemed to have dropped and the visitors looked increasingly like they were taking charge. So it ultimately proved.
I blame BBCRC - Andy Wood saying he really fancied us to win and the arrival if the Irish Naysayer alongside him to act like a radio albatross...

This shooting debate- It seems too often that we need another touch around the area. As a result, We are giving defenders more time to put a challenge in. No surprise our "goals for" is that low this season.
I think we have matched footballing wise and more than matched workrate wise many of the teams that have come to visit us at HS, but we lack is decisive- Walker type shots on goal.

Re: Barrow v stockport
I agree. Too many times last night the side were in good positions but took too long to do anything and lost the chance. Too many players wanted to take an extra touch. Stockport were up for it as a defeat would have cost them dearly. They blocked us off before we could shoot their determined defending made our attack look poor most of the game. One touch football and many times we would have been past them and in but we delayed and lost the ball too many times. Rowe and Ruthers trying to take on 3 players at once and loosing possession did not help either, they are good on their day but not that good.Jonty wrote:This shooting debate- It seems too often that we need another touch around the area. A draw was probably a fairer result but Stockport took advantage a couple of times and we got nothing.
The performances and results over the previous 5 games have been good, although we lost to Wrexham we played very well and should have won. In a season in which we are struggling we are going to get performances like last night and it is such a shame that the Nuneaton and Stockport home games have eclipsed the good performances and decent results of the other recent games. Doom and gloom are usually the order of the day after such a performance but it does not mean the team is going to fold and get relegated. There is no reason the can not get something from Hereford or Dartford, before another dreaded bottom of the table clash with Ebbsfleet.
