I was also watching a moron stood with his foot up the newly painted wall at the Xbar end. Can't you stand on two legs you cretin!!!! I was going to go over when I realised it was the idiot who I had told off in the Xbar for going to the front of the queue to get served. Just walked past everyone including our Project Manager, Ian.

Get your eyes tested Nichols. We counted 5 dents while sitting in the stand.

They belonged to Accy Stan.Holkerbird wrote:I was also watching a moron stood with his foot up the newly painted wall at the Xbar end. Can't you stand on two legs you cretin!!!! I was stood behind them when they were paying to go in, they said to the bloke behind the counter "we're Accrington staff, is there a discount"? the old guy looked at the other bloke (Les?) & asked him, he said " Yeah, you can get in for £6 instead of the usual £14" They said thanks & paid.......they looked very pleased they'd got their staff "discount"
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Aii i'm sure alot of people will like it. I like the idea of it, when I first heard you were doing a sign there I thought it was a tremendous idea.spirit of 1990 wrote:That's fair enough Ste, it was never going to be something everyone likes. I've got to say though that a lot of people said to me & the others yesterday they liked the sign, supporters stopped John Mackay & said the same.Ste Story wrote:Grounds looking good some great work done, but. I really really dislike that sign on the Holker End tbh...

Out of interest, what is it you don't like about it?
BTW, the post with the speakers on will be took down & the speakers will then go on two posts either side of the sign with the wiring going behind the cladding or we'll just move the post behind the cladding.
Purely from a design perspective is why I don't like it, the design is just awful:
1) The way the badge is cut off makes the sign look like it's been cut down too short, why have the badge on if its only half on.
2) The way the badge is on an angle whereas the rest of the sign (in fact, the whole end) is straight horizontal or vertical lines just looks dodgy
3) That shit gradient fading to light blue in the middle and dark blue on the outside, pointless and incredibly tacky on a sign like that
4) The fact the text is far too close to the edges both on the bottom and right hand side, again like point #1 makes the sign look like its been cut badly.
5) The word "The" in tiny letters on the top meaning it looks disjointed, would have looked 10x better if the big text ran right along vertically aligned
Would have looked much better either just thick big solid letters in the middle aligned properly or even designed to look like a street sign, like this:

For me its just looks cheap and tacky, like I say thats purely from a design perspective as a designer, so no doubt not many will agree with me and I hate to criticse because the work done is all absolutely fantastic. As it is I'm going to spend the next however many years ignoring it and pretending its not there.

Its a football ground, people are going to lean on walls, balls are going to hit them and they're going to get dirty.

Re: Ground maintenance area
Oh God here we go again!!!
So being at a football match is the reason why someone can't stand on two legs. Hahahaha. I watched the lads painting in the full glare of the sun to make the place look decent and I stand by the comments moron and cretin as that was what he was from the walking to the front of a queue regardless of anyone else waiting to be served.
It shouldn't be an excuse just because it is a football ground or are you saying people attending these don't know how to behave properly? It isn't hard to stand up surely, or sit in the stand if that is too hard to do.
I wasn't complaining about him leaning on a wall, it was the putting his bloody great hoof on it I objected to.

Re: Ground maintenance area
The best thing to do Elaine is get the lads to do the painting on the morning of a match and write WET PAINT in chalk on the ground in front of it.Holkerbird wrote:Oh God here we go again!!!

See how many people lean or put their hoof's against it then.
