Re: New Manager
A prospective manager will obviously have to sell himself to the interview board, but any candidate with anything like decent credentials is going to want the interview board to sell Barrow AFC to HIM, and that's where I think they have their work cut out. An experienced manager of the Coleman or Mellon calibre will want to see a business plan and a clear road map of where the club want to go under his leadership, should he get the job. He will want to see evidence that the club is ambitious. From purely a fan's perspective, I'm not sure the club has ambition. I don't see any evidence of the club having a clear vision of anything beyond short-term survival week-to-week. For that reason, I think the board will have to appoint a young manager from lower down the pyramid who is looking to enhance his experience, or someone looking to wind-up a playing career and take his first steps into management. This doesn't worry me too much - some of the best managers we've had have come from this background - Vic Halom, Owen Brown (Owen who??) and of course D&D spring to mind.

Re: New Manager
Basic questions might include full-time or part-time, location, budget.
You might imagine a part-time team would merit a part-time manager but he would clearly be spending much more time on the job than a couple of training sessions per week and match days suggest. Never really understood how some managers cope at a decent level alongside full-time employment in other areas, even the most basic 9-5 job. If full-time, perhaps there could be an expectation to include some sort of presence in Furness on a weekly basis in support of the club's profile and development?
Distance from the current or alternative suitable training location (though he wouldn't necessarily need to attend each session, given a coach and physio in support) might be a limiting factor for applicants.
Should we be tempted to reduce the budgeted figure for management? Or perhaps the manager's salary and expenses are for himself to decide as part of the playing budget.

Re: New Manager
Not a chance will Flitcroft come to Barrow. He has done a massive Job at Chorley . Taking the Barrow Job would be a massive step backwards for him and Matt Jansen. I believe from what i have seen at Chorley they will be playing Skrill North Next year, and i am hoping that they will be playing Barrow next season in that league.Jonty wrote:Garry Flitcroft- Chorley. Has taken them up and his teams score goals. What do you reckon Aitchy lad.![]()
.
Saw them thump the 4th place team Matlock 3-1 last night. They are playing very attractive football at the moment and i would love to see a few of there players at Barrow so much but i am afraid that isn't going to happen.
You must pop by to catch a game John you will see what i mean

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: New Manager
There are a lot of interesting suggestions coming in for the role of our new manager, but I think we need to be realistic on two fronts. Firstly what do you think the new manager will achieve, he won’t have a magic wand, and there is no endless pot of money at the end of the rainbow. We could end up with little or no progress being made in the first twelve months and how long will the fickle Barrow supporters maintain their limited interest levels.
Secondly who in their right mind would come to Holker Street in the present situation, think about it, a small playing budget, a set of fans who criticise at the first signs of the club struggling and finally the feeling of negativity which surrounds the club at present. The role is a real poison chalice. The next applicant wont have the love and passion for the club that Bayliss certainly showed, and they won't necessarly listen to the constant negative feedback and when the going gets tough you wont see their arse for dust.
This is not a fairy story, the chance of another football miracle being achieved are very, very slim.

We should have stuck with Bayliss forever, just on the off chance that managers on the dole queue didn't fancy working for such a beastly organisation!

Does anyone really beieve our budget is that bad for this league? If so, get a bloody grip of yourselves. It's not the highest in the league, but it's far from the lowest.
